Determination of mercury at picogram level in natural waters with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry by using 3D printed metal scavengers

The determination of ultra-trace concentrations of Hg in natural water samples via preconcentration using 3D printed metal scavenger technique followed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was developed. The determination of Hg in certified reference material ERM-CA615 (groundwater) was performed with high accuracy and precision resulting in recovery of 100 ± 3% and RSD <2.5%, respectively. Selective laser sintering (SLS) 3D printing was used to fabricate the scavengers using a mixture of polyamide-12 powder with thiol-functionalized silica. An edge-driven 3D region growing approach for upper airways morphology and volume evaluation in patients with Pierre Robin sequence

In this paper, a semi-automatic approach for segmentation of the upper airways is proposed. The implemented approach uses an edge-driven 3D region-growing algorithm to segment ROIs and 3D volume-rendering technique to reconstruct the 3D model of the upper airways. This method can be used to integrate information inside a medical decision support system, making it possible to enhance medical evaluation. The effectiveness of the proposed segmentation approach was evaluated using Jaccard (92.1733%) and dice (94.6441%) similarity indices and specificity (96.8895%) and sensitivity (97.6682%) rates. Una de las principales fuentes de contaminación de las aguas es el vertido de efluentes insuficientemente depurados, razón por la que el control de vertidos ha centrado gran parte de las actuaciones legislativas de las administraciones competentes en esta materia. Las técnicas convencionales de depuración de metales pesados presentan dificultades para lograr el cumplimiento de los límites de vertido siendo necesaria la búsqueda de técnicas alternativas para reducir estas emisiones.
