Modelling electric field control of the spin state in the mixed-valence polyoxometalate [GeV14O40]8−
2013
International audience; : The two-electron reduced mixed-valence polyoxometalate [GeV14O40](8-) presents an unusual paramagnetic behaviour as a consequence of the partial trapping of these electrons. The effect of applying an electric field is that of inducing antiferromagnetic coupling between the two delocalized electronic spins.
Theoretical characterization of the electronic properties of unsymmetrical phthalocyanine analogues
1993
Abstract The electronic structure of unsymmetrical phthalocyanine-based compounds is investigated using the nonempirical valence effective Hamiltonian (VEH) method. The VEH results predict a slight but continuous destabilization of the HOMO level and a monotonous narrowing of the HOMO-LUMO energy gap as the size of the system increases. The theoretical trends are found to agree with optical absorption experimental data and show that the optical properties of phthalocyanine can be monitored by adjusting the size of the π-conjugated macrocycle.
The impact of intercellular communication for the generation of complex multicellular prevascularized tissue equivalents
2019
In reconstructive surgery the use of prevascularized soft tissue equivalents is a promising approach for wound coverage of defects after tumor resection or trauma. However, in previous studies to generate soft tissue equivalents on collagen membranes, microcapillaries were restricted to superficial areas. In this study, to understand which factors were involved in the formation of these microcapillaries, the levels of the angiogenic factors vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), Interleukin-8 (IL-8), and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) in the supernatants of the tissue equivalents were examined at various time points and conditions. Additionally, the influence of these factors on …
One-sensor electronic olfactometer for rapid sorting of fresh fruit juices
2001
Abstract A low-cost electronic olfactometer was developed, based on virtual sensors array (an array of signals from a single metal oxide sensor) and on our proprietary semi-automated sampling system. This concept enables us to drastically improve the sensitivity and selectivity of the entire olfactometer to make it suited to food products analysis. Each step of the prototype was checked separately in earlier work, and finally the system performance was evaluated first on pure chemicals, and then at-line for grape juice during grape-harvesting in Champagne. It is shown that over a 3-week vintage period, the drift of the unique-sensor was quite low (absolute baseline value: avg., 2152; std., …
ISFET drawbacks minimization using a novel electronic compensation
2004
Ion sensitive field effect transistor (ISFET) and membrane field effect transistor (MEMFET) have some drawbacks related to: long-term drift, hysteresis and thermal drift. These factors limit the accuracy of ISFET/MEMFET based measurements systems, specially for continuous or long period measurements. Due to its accuracy, repeatability and easy-to-use features, electronic instrumentation systems are the best tools to design ISFET/MEMFET based measurement systems. A well-designed hardware and a qualified virtual instrumentation software are the key factors to overcome and compensate hysteresis, thermal and long-term drifts ISFET/MEMFET limitations. The paper is dedicated to show an instrument…
Photocatalysis: a promising route for 21st century organic chemistry
2007
One of the main goals of 21st century chemistry is to replace environmentally hazardous processes with energy efficient routes allowing to totally avoid the use and production of harmful chemicals and to maximise the quantity of raw material that ends up in the final product. Selective photocatalytic conversions will play a major role in this evolution and this account shows how photocatalysis is offering an alternative green route for the production of organics.
Laser Cladding of TiC for Better Titanium Components
2011
Pure commercial titanium is widely used because of its high corrosion resistance and lower cost compared with other titanium alloys, in particular when there is no high wear requirements. Nevertheless, the wear resistance is poor and surface damage usually occurs in areas under contact loadings. Laser cladding is a suitable technique for manufacturing precise and defect free coatings of a dissimilar material with higher wear and corrosion resistance. In this work a good understanding of laser metal deposition mechanisms allowed to obtain defect free coatings of Ti6Al4V and TiC metal matrix composite (MMC) using a flash lamp pumped Nd:YAG laser of 1 kW. A complete investigation of the proces…
Total ionizing dose (TID) evaluation of magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ) current sensors
2015
Abstract The paper shows an experimental study to know the behaviour of tunnel magnetoresistive effect-based current sensors configured in a Wheatstone bridge in response to irradiation. In particular the sensitivity, hysteresis, output offset voltage and input resistance are discussed when the sensors are submitted to a total irradiation dose of 43 krad with 36 krad/h dose rate. The same electrical parameters were studied subsequently once the irradiated sensors were submitted to an 80 °C annealing process. The studied TMR sensors are applied in a switched-mode power converter for space application.
Spray pyrolysis synthesis and characterization of Mg1-xSrxMoO4 heterostructure with white light emission
2020
[EN] Molybdates are inorganic materials with great potential in white phosphors application, being an alternative to traditional lighting sources. In this study, we report the synthesis and characterization of Mg1-xSrxMoO4 (x = 0, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, and 1) powders with white light-emitting properties. Using X-ray diffraction, the formation of the monoclinic beta-MgMoO4 phase was observed for x = 0 and the formation of the tetragonal scheelite phase of SrMoO4 was observed for x = 1. The formation of a heterostructure composed of both phases was found for compositions with x = 0.25, 0.50 and 0.75. Scanning and trasmission electron microscopy images showed that the Mg1-xSrxMoO4 particles exhibi…
On the FE codes capability for tool temperature calculation in machining processes
2006
Abstract The applications of numerical simulation to machining processes have been more and more growing in the last years: today a quite effective predictive capability has been reached, at least as far as global cutting variables (for instance cutting forces) are concerned. On the other hand, the capability to predict local cutting variables (i.e. pressure on the tool, temperature distribution, residual stresses in the machined surface) has to be heavily improved and verified. At the same time, effective experimental procedures for validating numerical results have to be developed. In this work two different approaches were implemented for temperature measuring: a thermocouple based appro…
