The concept of bilingualism in Finnish political discourse is predominantly used in the meaning of official or state bilingualism, focussing on the two constitutionally defined ‘national languages’; i.e. Finnish and Swedish. Legally, both Finnish and Swedish speakers have a right for public services, such as schooling or health care, in their first language. On the other hand, several language ideological debates have taken place in recent years, challenging especially the status of Swedish in administration and education. Il contributo ha l’obiettivo di studiare alcuni casi di ricostruzione dell’abside eseguiti in edifici chiesastici palermitani nella seconda metà del XVI secolo. Si tratta delle chiese di San Sebastiano, San Francesco d’Assisi e San Martino delle Scale (all’interno dell’omonima abbazia), in cui, nella seconda metà del Cinquecento, per motivi liturgici, l’abside originaria viene “trasformata”, in un’abside “piatta”, al fine di potervi inserire il Coro ligneo. A Functional Analysis of the Finnish 2012 Presidential Elections

This study applied the functional theory of political campaign discourse, developed for political campaigns in the United States to two televised presidential debates in the 2012 presidential elections in Finland. Acclaims were the most preferred statement by the candidates, with agreements being the least preferred. Policy was discussed more than character during the debates. General goals and ideals were used more frequently to acclaim than to attack. Results are generally consistent with the results of previous studies of presidential elections in the US and other countries. This chapter analyses the actual speech acts of politicisation among parliamentarians, which also makes it possible to set the current debates among European Union (EU) scholars in a wider context. My aim is to sketch a scheme for distinguishing different aspects of politicisation, referring to concepts of politics (sphere or activity and its specific aspects), to the politicisation of topics or persons, to its time dimensions (past, present, and future), to different activities of politicisation (adversaries, unintended changes, the actors themselves), as well as to opposing evaluations of politicisation.
