Verbal and visual representations in task redesign: how different viewpoints enter into information systems design discussions

We explore an important phase of information systems design (ISD), namely task redesign, and especially how different viewpoints enter into the dis- cussions. We study how one particular visual representation, a process diagram, is interpreted and how alternative, even competing, representations are produced verbally. To tie the visual and verbal representations and the representational prac- tices to wider social practices, we develop and use the Extended Three-dimen- sional Model of discourse. International audience; LOL may be one of the most popular words of internet slang. It is generally taken to be the acronym of ‘laughing out loud’, but, as some studies have already shown (for example Baron 2004 and Markman 2013), it is not always used to indicate a humorous response and it really is multifunctional. Building up on previous studies of the different functions of LOL, this paper seeks to explore a possible correlation between position and function of non-lexicalized LOL. Tutkielmassa tarkastellaan kansainvälistymisen diskursseja suomalaisessa korkeakoulutuksessa erilaisten korkeakoulutuksen kansainvälisyyttä käsittelevien dokumenttien kautta. Para ello, basamos nuestro estudio en un análisis cuantitativo-cualitativo de un corpus transcrito de ensayos orales en español. Multilingualism in indigenous language communities brings forth tensions and creativity related to language change. In this article, taking dynamic multilingual indigenous Sámi language practices as a focus of ethnographic and discourse analytical research, I examine rhizomatic discourses on changing language in multilingual Sámi spaces. Based on longitudinal research on multilingualism in Sámiland, I will argue that the interlinked discourses of endangerment, commodification and carnivalisation simultaneously circulate across Sámi spaces, and structure language practices and experiences.
