Hybridization between Media Education and Visual Arts Education. Miyazaki's Cinema as a Revulsive

2011

In this article we suggest an approximation between media education and visual arts education. Teachers of Primary School interpret the media as a visual artefacts. But this visual artifacts can be analyzed from the education in visual arts. We can offer a suitable formation in the moment on training teachers (Clarembeaux, 2010; Huerta, 2005), but is also necessary move a notion of visual arts. Now, in Spain, visual arts education is far from the media images. We would incorporate the media education in the Primary School curriculum from the visual arts education (Hernández, 2000; Huerta, 2009). We focuses this research in a case of student’s group. They are university training teachers, an…

Orientamento e inclusione: uno studio di caso nelle scuole secondarie palermitane di primo grado

2017

This paper presents the main results of the research work that promoted the design and implementation of training and guidance played in the territory of Palermo during the school years 2013/2014 and 2014/2015 in three secondary schools, with operating procedures, capable of promoting inclusive paths, based on the involvement of students, teachers and parents. The assumption from which we started is that the problems of dispersion and social marginalization can be addressed not only through direct guidance interventions with young people at risk, but also involving adults of reference because we are convinced that this will have, even at a distance of time a significant impact on students. …

Applying the integrated trans-contextual model to mathematics activities in the classroom and homework behavior and attainment

2016

The aim of the present study was to test hypotheses of the trans-contextual model. We predicted relations between perceived autonomy support, autonomous motivation toward mathematics learning activities in an educational context, autonomous motivation toward mathematics homework in an out-of-school context, social-cognitive variables and intentions for future engagement in mathematics homework, and mathematics homework outcomes. Secondary school students completed measures of perceived autonomy support from teachers and autonomous motivation for in-class mathematics activities; measures of autonomous motivation, social-cognitive variables, and intentions for out-of-school mathematics homewo…

An Entropy-Driven Scenario for Future Design Education

2021

In a Domus article published in 1998, John Thackara claimed that design would lead by entropy in the future, and he won- dered how to avoid a similar dystopian scenario. As designers, we are aware of how wicked problems are really hard to face and how complexity has increased in these past decades: trans- disciplinary skills are therefore increasingly required. Further- more, we can only achieve incremental improvements to the situation, because a wicked problem typically has no definitive solution (Rittel, Webber 1973, in Erlhoff, 2008): a new mind- set is therefore required, one that is capable of overcoming our traditional one (Morin, 2015), in order to face and manage the complexity. PEDAGOGICAL ASSUMPTIONS OF TRANSFORMATIVE DI-GITAL MODEL FOR SOCIAL CHANGE

2019

Creating of digital models which transform learning and its outcomes, as well as the learner’s educational, developmental and educative achievements has become vital to provision of inclusion possibilities in a networked society. Researchers have produced several frameworks of using digital technologies in education, but these are generally do not appropriately incorporate socio-contextual perspectives. To explore this area and create a transformative model of teaching-learning at higher levels of education in Special pedagogy and social work an appropriate pedagogical provisions are needed to transform educational process as a system including: (a) meaningful and transforming objectives, (…

TRANSVERSAL COMPETENCES IN HIGHER EDUCATION CURRICULUM OF POPULAR MUSIC STUDIES IN SCOTLAND: CURRENT FRAMEWORK, PROBLEMS AND FUTURE POTENTIAL

2017

Transversal competences - alternatively referred as ‘21st century skills’ and ‘key competencies’ is a term rigorously discussed within the international research and education community since the beginning of the century. However, two major challenges remain, such as how to efficiently integrate the concept of transversal competencies into existing programmes, as well as how to assess transversal competences across the curriculum. It is important to recognise the potential for applying the concept of transversal competences to popular music curricula, as this multidisciplinary field combines all three aspects: broader creative sphere (musicianship, composition, cultu…

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Group Intervention for Parents of Children with Disabilities (Navigator ACT): An Open Feasibility Trial

2022

AbstractParents of children with autism spectrum disorder and other disabilities report high levels of distress, but systematically evaluated interventions are few. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of a novel, manualized Acceptance and Commitment Therapy group intervention (Navigator ACT) in a sample of 94 parents of children with disabilities. Feasibility was measured by treatment completion, credibility, and satisfaction, and preliminary outcomes by using self-rating scales administered at the baseline, post-intervention, and follow-up. The results imply the intervention is feasible in the context of Swedish outpatient habilitation services. A preliminary analysis of the outco…

Gender Trends in Tourism Destination

2013

Abstract The tourism experience was perceived traditionally in terms of products, destinations and consumption patterns. The “new mobility turn” sees the holiday experience as “performance”, “surveillance”, “play”, relationships “at-a-distance”, the impermanence of “sandcastles”, place making, etc. Gale (2007) stated five principles of this turn in tourism: it studies the mobility of individuals; it acknowledges material and immaterial structures; it deals with immobility and power relations; it recognizes virtual and imaginative forms of mobility; and it is concerned with environmental and global consequences. Destinations are not perceived now as fixed unities but as“sandcastles” made of …

When Investment in Basic Skills Gives Negative Returns

2017

In recent years, the Norwegian government has invested heavily in improving basic skills in the adult population. Initiatives have included legislation, the introduction of work-based adult education programs, and reforms in schooling. In light of this investment, we explore trends in adult literacy and numeracy, by comparing data from two international surveys of adult skills, conducted in 2003 and 2012. Paradoxically, the proportion of low-performing adults appears to have increased, most significantly in the 16- to 24-year age group and in the foreign-born population. The profile of the lowest performing group has changed in the intervening years. These findings suggest that adult educa…
