2016
International audience; Purpose: Prevention is a priority in the fight against cancers, especially nutritional prevention. To update the levels of evidence of relationships between 10 nutritional factors and cancer risk, the scientific literature published from 2006 to 2014 was reviewed by an expert group. Methods: Data from 133 meta-analyses, pooled analyses or intervention trials were examined. Nearly 150 relationships between nutritional factors and cancer at various sites were evaluated. Results: According to the evidence graded as convincing or probable, these factors were divided in two groups. Neuromuscular electrical stimulation leads to physiological gains enhancing postural balance in the pre‐frail elderly
2015
International audience; Physiological aging leads to a progressive weakening of muscles and tendons, thereby disturbing the ability to control postural balance and consequently increasing exposure to the risks of falls. Here, we introduce a simple and easy-to-use neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) training paradigm designed to alleviate the postural control deficit in the elderly, the first hallmarks of which present as functional impairment. Nine pre-frail older women living in a long-term care facility performed 4 weeks of NMES training on their plantarflexor muscles, and seven nontrained, non-frail older women living at home participated in this study as controls. Participants w…

Impact of food fortification on nutritional outcomes and satisfaction in the older people: A systematic literature review protocol
2021
Malnutrition, a recognized pathology in the older adults, corresponds to an imbalance of nutritional intake compared to the body's needs. To treat this disease, several alternatives can be used, among which there is food fortification. Food-based fortification (also known as dietary enrichment) corresponds to the addition of conventional foods or high calorie and/or nutrients ingredients in the person's meals and dishes. It is a strategy used to treat moderate and severe malnutrition but can be employed as prevention. In this context, the purpose of the present study was to conduct a systematic review of all studies related to the nutritional and satisfaction issue of fortified foods dedica…
