Abstract Enniatins A, A1, B and B1 (ENs) are mycotoxins produced by Fusarium spp. and are normal contaminants of cereals and derivate products. In this study, the stability of ENs was evaluated during food processing by simulation of pasta cooking. Thermal treatments at different incubation times (5, 10 and 15 min) and different pH (4, 7 and 10) were applied in an aqueous system and pasta resembling system (PRS). The concentrations of the targeted mycotoxins were determined using liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry. Accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) has been evaluated as a fast alternative to methanolic saponification for the extraction of 12 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from mussel tissue. Several solvent systems and different operating conditions were investigated. The mixture dichloromethane-acetone (1:1, v/v) gave the best recoveries at 125 degrees C and 1500 psi, in a total time of 10 min. No yield difference was found between freeze-drying (Fd) or drying the wet mussel with diatomaceous earth (Ded) prior to extraction. Base composition of DNA from glomalean fungi: high amounts of methylated cytosine.

Glomales (Zygomycetes) are obligate fungal symbionts of roots of land plants and form arbuscular mycorrhiza. Sporal DNA of 10 isolates belonging to nine species was purified and the base composition was determined by RP-HPLC. Base composition fell in a narrow range between 30 and 35% G + C. A high amount of methylated cytosine (mC) accounting for 2-4% of the total nucleotides was found in all taxa. The DNA melting profile was defined for Scutellospora castanea. It corresponded to 32% G + C, and the shape of the denaturation curve suggested a heterogeneity in the GC content within the fungal genome. Introduction Hypersalivation is known as a frequent, disturbing, and socially stigmatizing side effect of therapy with the atypical antipsychotic clozapine. It has been shown that the addition of the anticholinergic pirenzepine is able to reduce clozapine-induced hypersalivation, probably by blocking M4-receptors. Occurrence of fumonisins in organic and conventional cereal-based products commercialized in France, Germany and Spain

A fast and effective method for quantitative determination of fumonisins B1 and B2 (FB1 and FB2) in different cereal-based products was developed. Fumonisins were extracted combining a solid liquid extraction (SLE) pre-treatment and immunoaffinity columns (IACs), which were applied for an effective clean-up. Consecutively, high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled to hybrid triple quadrupole-linear ion trap mass spectrometer (QTrap®) was used for the separation, detection and quantification of targeted mycotoxins. AbstractThe unknown modified nucleoside U* has been isolated by enzymatic and HPLC protocols from tRNALeu(U*AA) recently discovered in brewer's yeast. The pure U* nucleoside has been characterized by electron impact mass spectroscopy, and comparison of its chromatographic and UV-absorption properties with those of appropriate synthetic compounds. The structure of U* was established as 2′-O-methyl-5-carbamoylmethyluridine (ncm5Um). The yeast tRNALeu (U*AA) is the only tRNA so far sequenced which has been shown to contain ncm5Um. The location of such a modified uridine at the first position of the anticodon restricts the decoding property to A of the leucine UUA codon.

Automated Determination of Paroxetine and Its Main Metabolite by Column Switching and On-Line High-Performance Liquid Chromatography

An automated column-switching method coupled to isocratic high-performance liquid chromatography has been developed for simultaneous determination of blood levels of paroxetine and its nonconjugated main metabolite BRL 36610. The lower limits of detection were 9-15 nmol/L (3-5 ng/ml) and linearity between drug concentration and detector response was found for 0-1,500 nmol/L (0-500 ng/ml). The method could be applied to the analysis of serum samples obtained from depressed patients who were treated with daily oral doses of 20 or 40 mg of paroxetine.
