AbstractBackgroundA recent genome-wide association study (GWAS) identified 12 independent loci significantly associated with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Polygenic risk scores (PRS), derived from the GWAS, can be used to assess genetic overlap between ADHD and other traits. Using ADHD samples from several international sites, we derived PRS for ADHD from the recent GWAS to test whether genetic variants that contribute to ADHD also influence two cognitive functions that show strong association with ADHD: attention regulation and response inhibition, captured by reaction time variability (RTV) and commission errors (CE).MethodsThe discovery GWAS included 19 099 ADHD cases …

This paper investigates how the emotion "joy" and its correlation with cognitive and motivational factors may influence learning a foreign language. After an overview of current research on emotions, with special reference to the neurobiological basis of brain activity, the paper presents an empirical study of the oral competence of adult Italian learners of German as a third language in a classroom setting at the Goethe-Institut Palermo. The article offers a contribution to the interaction research in the foreign language teaching and learning. It starts with an overview of various research approaches to the foreign language teaching and learning, from the 60s to the present days. A multimodal analysis of an excerpt of videorecorded classroom interaction is then provided. The analysis is focused on several aspects of classroom participation and teaching sequences. Some implications of the present research for teachers' training are finally provided.

The Code of Criminal Procedure of 1928 provided three types of jurisdiction: material, topical and functional. In general, legal solutions adopted in the Code including provisions on material jurisdiction should be viewed positively. The regulations covered all the cases the Polish courts could hypothetically come across in practice, procedurally solving many issues connected with it.
