Linear infrared dichroism by a double modulation technique
1991
In the first part of this paper an experimental setup using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) in combination with a photoelastic modulator (PEM) for linear dichroism measurements is described. The second part shows the influence of PEM-amplitude and scan-velocity on the sensitivity of the instrument. The third part deals with the fringe-problem in the baselines of absorbance spectra and its influence on the determination of the linear dichroic ratio.
FT-IR investigation of the acetamide state in AOT reversed micelles
2003
The state of acetamide nanoparticles encapsulated in the hydrophilic core of sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate (AOT) reversed micelles and dispersed in CCl4 has been investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The analysis of the vibrational spectra reveals even at the higher acetamide to AOT molar ratio some changes of the typical H-bonded structure of solid acetamide ascribable to their small size, confinement effects, and acetamide-AOT head group interactions. The stretching modes of acetamide CO and AOT sulfonate groups indicate unambiguously specific acetamide-AOT head group interactions.
The Formation of Glycerol Oligomers with Two New Types of End Groups in the Presence of a Homogeneous Alkaline Catalyst
2019
The purpose of this work was to synthesize and characterize oligoglycerols with the chains of more than four repeating units. Those oligoglycerols may have some interesting applications, among others, as polyoxyalkylation starters. The glycerol oligomerization process was carried out during 12 h, at 230 °
Surface molecularly imprinted silica for selective solid-phase extraction of biochanin A, daidzein and genistein from urine samples
2015
Selective molecularly imprinted silica polymer (SiO2MIP) for extraction of biochanin A, daidzein and genistein was synthesized using the surface molecular imprinting technique with the silica gel as a support. Biochanin A (BCA) was used as a template, 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) as a functional monomer, and tetraethoxysilicane (TEOS) as a cross-linker. Non-imprinted polymer with the sol–gel process (SiO2NIP) was also prepared for comparison. The synthesized polymers were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and a standard Brunauer-Emett-Teller (BET) and Barret–Joyner–Halenda (BJH) analysis. The obtained results indicate…
Illustrating the processability of magnetic layered double hydroxides: layer-by-layer assembly of magnetic ultrathin films.
2013
We report the preparation of single-layer layered double hydroxide (LDH) two-dimensional (2D) nanosheets by exfoliation of highly crystalline NiAl-NO3 LDH. Next, these unilamellar moieties have been incorporated layer-by-layer (LbL) into a poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate)/LDH nanosheet multilayer ultrathin film (UTF). Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), ultraviolet-visible light (UV-vis), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) profiles have been used to follow the uniform growth of the UTF. The use of a magnetic LDH as the cationic component of the multilayered architecture enables study of the resulting magnetic properties of the UTFs. Our magnetic data show the appearance of spontaneous …
Accelerated weathering of polypropylene/wood flour composites
2008
Abstract Wood–plastic composites (WPCs) have received increasing attention during the last decades, because of many advantages related to their use. Some of their main applications are represented by outdoor furnishing and decking; therefore, it is important to assess their behaviour under UV exposure. In this work, polypropylene/wood flour composites were prepared and their resistance to photooxidation investigated. The composites were prepared by extrusion and compression moulding, and were subjected to mechanical tests, FTIR analysis and molecular weight measurements. The results showed that the composites retained a higher fraction of the original mechanical properties after accelerated…
Conformational substates and dynamic properties of carbonmonoxy hemoglobin.
2003
Heme pocket dynamics of human carbonmonoxy hemoglobin (HbCO) is studied by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The CO stretching band at various temperatures in the interval 300-10 K is analyzed in terms of three taxonomic A substates; however, in HbCO the band attributed to the A(1) taxonomic substate accounts for approximately 90% of the total intensity in the pH range 8.8-4.5. Two different regimes as a function of temperature are observed: below 160 K, the peak frequency and the bandwidth of the A(1) band have constant values whereas, above this temperature, a linear temperature dependence is observed, suggesting the occurrence of transitions between statistical substates within th…
Conformational investigation of alpha,beta-dehydropeptides. VIII. N-acetyl-alpha,beta-dehydroamino acid N'-methylamides: conformation and electron de…
2009
The Fourier transform infrared spectra are analyzed in the regions of Vs(N-H), amide I, amide II and Vs(C alpha = C beta) bands for a series of Ac-delta Xaa-NHMe, where delta Xaa = delta Ala, (Z)-delta Abu, (Z)-delta Leu, (Z)-delta Phe and delta Val, to determine the predominant solution conformation of these alpha,beta-dehydropeptide-related molecules and the electron distribution perturbation in their amide bonds. The measurements were performed in dichloromethane (DCM). To confirm and rationalize the assignments, the spectra of the respective series of saturated Ac-Xaa-NHMe, recorded in DCM, and the spectra of these two series of unsaturated and saturated compounds, recorded in acetonitr…
Classification of pumpkin seed oils according to their species and genetic variety by attenuated total reflection Fourier-transform infrared spectros…
2011
Attenuated total reflection Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), followed by multivariate treatment of the spectral data, was used to classify seed oils of the genus Cucurbita (pumpkins) according to their species as C. maxima, C. pepo, and C. moschata. Also, C. moschata seed oils were classified according to their genetic variety as RG, Inivit C-88, and Inivit C-2000. Up to 23 wavelength regions were selected on the spectra, each region corresponding to a peak or shoulder. The normalized absorbance peak areas within these regions were used as predictors. Using linear discriminant analysis (LDA), an excellent resolution among all categories concerning both Cucurbita species a…
Quality control Fourier transform infrared determination of diazepam in pharmaceuticals
2007
A quality control procedure has been developed for the determination of diazepam in pharmaceuticals using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The method involves the off-line extraction of diazepam with chloroform by sonication and direct determination in the extracts through peak area measurement in the interval between 1672 and 1682 cm(-1) using a baseline correction defined between 1850 and 1524 cm(-1). For standardization it was used an external calibration line established from standard solutions of diazepam in chloroform. The method provides a limit of detection of 0.04 mg per tablet (n=5), a relative standard deviation (R.S.D.) of 0.5% for 5 independent measurements of a …
