Morphological distribution of μ chains and cd15 receptors in colorectal polyp and adenocarcinoma specimens

2013

BACKGROUND: We have recently investigated the localisation of immunoglobulin-producing cells (IPCs) in inflamed intestinal tissue samples from patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and identified two main patterns of B lymphocyte infiltration: one characterised by the moderate strong stromal localisation of small B1 cell-like IgM+/CD79+/CD20-/CD21-/CD23-/CD5 ± IPCs, and the other by the peri-glandular localisation of IPCs with irregular nuclei that had surface markers specific for a B cell subset (IgM and CD79), but quantitative differences in their λ and κ chains. The same patients were also tested for CD15+ receptors, which were localised on inflammatory cell surfaces or in the …

Characterization of a putative extracellular matrix protein from the beetle Tenebrio molitor: hormonal regulation during metamorphosis.

2004

0949-944X (Print) Journal Article Research Support, Non-U.S. Gov't; We used differential display to isolate epidermis cDNAs corresponding to juvenile-hormone analog-regulated mRNA from the beetle Tenebrio molitor. One of them encodes a putative extracellular matrix (ECM) protein, named Tenebrin. Indeed, the deduced protein sequence contains ECM typical features like the presence of a signal peptide, internal repeats, a RGD tripeptide sequence motif known to bind integrins and von Willebrand factor type c domains involved in protein-protein interactions. Northern blot analysis reveals a single transcript of about 11 kb with an expression pattern correlated to 20-hydroxyecdysone fluctuations …

Introduction to Digital Signal Processing

2018

Signal processing deals with the representation, transformation, and manipulation of signals and the information they contain. Typical examples include extracting the pure signals from a mixture observation (a field commonly known as deconvolution) or particular signal (frequency) components from noisy observations (generally known as filtering). This chapter outlines the basics of signal processing and then introduces the more advanced concepts of time‐frequency and time‐scale representations, as well as emerging fields of compressed sensing and multidimensional signal processing. When moving to multidimensional signal processing, a modern approach is taken from the point of view of statis…

Robust subspace DOA estimation for wireless communications

2002

This paper is concerned with array signal processing in non-Gaussian noise typical in urban and indoor radio channels. Robust and fully nonparametric high resolution algorithms for direction of arrival (DOA) estimation are presented. The algorithms are based on multivariate spatial sign and rank concepts. The performance of the algorithms is studied using simulations. The results show that almost optimal performance is obtained in wide variety of noise conditions.

The Unique Invention of the Siliceous Sponges: Their Enzymatically Made Bio-Silica Skeleton

2011

Sponges are sessile filter feeders that, among the metazoans, evolved first on Earth. In the two classes of the siliceous sponges (the Demospongiae and the Hexactinellida), the complex filigreed body is stabilized by an inorganic skeleton composed of amorphous silica providing them a distinct body shape and plan. It is proposed that the key innovation that allowed the earliest metazoans to form larger specimens was the enzyme silicatein. This enzyme is crucial for the formation of the siliceous skeleton. The first sponge fossils with body preservation were dated back prior to the “Precambrian-Cambrian” boundary [Vendian (610–545 Ma)/Ediacaran (542–580 Ma)]. A further molecule required for t…

Narrare la generatività familiare

2018

The author proposes a short reflection on the training of the emotional system of the subject; that is a pedagogically relevant theme because it allows to comprehend the first emotional literacy that happens in family. It also helps to explore the…

Links and Bifurcations in Nonsingular Morse–Smale Systems

1997

Wada's theorem classifies the set of periodic orbits in NMS systems on S3 as links, that can be written in terms of six operations. This characterization allows us to study the topological restrictions that links require to suffer a given codimension one bifurcation. Moreover, these results are reproduced in the case of NMS systems with rotational symmetries, introducing new geometrical tools.

Matrix metalloproteinases 2 and 9, and extracellular matrix in Kaposi's sarcoma

2010

Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are associated with Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) tumorigenesis and may contribute to the mechanism of KS invasive growth. To date, only a few MMPs have been studied in KS lesions, and exactly which MMPs are involved in KS development and progression remains unanswered. However, MMPs 2 and 9 have been associated with different phases of angiogenesis, but their role in the proteolytic modification of the extracellular matrix has not been investigated. The results of this study confirm that MMPs, specifically MMP-2 and MMP-9, can contribute to angiogenesis by disrupting the vessel basement membrane and other extracellular matrix barriers, and enabling endothelial cell…

Approximation of W1, Sobolev homeomorphism by diffeomorphisms and the signs of the Jacobian

2018

Abstract Let Ω ⊂ R n , n ≥ 4 , be a domain and 1 ≤ p [ n / 2 ] , where [ a ] stands for the integer part of a. We construct a homeomorphism f ∈ W 1 , p ( ( − 1 , 1 ) n , R n ) such that J f = det ⁡ D f > 0 on a set of positive measure and J f 0 on a set of positive measure. It follows that there are no diffeomorphisms (or piecewise affine homeomorphisms) f k such that f k → f in W 1 , p .

Mappings of finite distortion: Monotonicity and continuity

2001

We study mappings f = ( f1, ..., fn) : Ω → Rn in the Sobolev space W loc (Ω,R n), where Ω is a connected, open subset of Rn with n ≥ 2. Thus, for almost every x ∈ Ω, we can speak of the linear transformation D f(x) : Rn → Rn, called differential of f at x. Its norm is defined by |D f(x)| = sup{|D f(x)h| : h ∈ Sn−1}. We shall often identify D f(x) with its matrix, and denote by J(x, f ) = det D f(x) the Jacobian determinant. Thus, using the language of differential forms, we can write
