The pianists in front of Liszt's Sonata in B minor

2015

Our research focuses a comparative analysis of the performances of Liszt's Sonata in b minor. We analysed twenty-five recordings by pianists grouped into five piano schools : Hungarian, French, Russian, American and German. We compared the deviations of the performers from the score and the differences between the individual performances, based on a selection of seven parameters that allowed us to characterise each of them. A double analysis was made: "by ear" and with the aid of acomputer. Our research has shown the importance of several complementary factors of influence : education, the period during which the pianists lived and created, the artists' temperaments and their artistic indiv…

The phenomenon of multiculturalism. The case of Poland

2017

One of the most important global processes nowadays is migration. Its result is, interalia, the deepening multiculturalism. It can take the form of a social phenomenon, political project or society. In this article we have focused on multiculturalism as a social phenomenon. It means the presence of different cultures with an ethnic background of their diversity in a specific social space and historical moment. They exist together and accept the mutually distinct ethnic (cultural) difference. The origins of the phenomenon of multiculturalism go back to ancient times, although then the phenomenon did not have a scientific framework of analysis. Such ones appeared in the 70s and 80s of the twe…

2016

Both German minority in Poland and Polonia in Germany constitute undoubtedly – along with the history, geographical location and common membership of the Republic of Poland’s and German Federal Republic’s to EU and NATO – one of more important determinants of relations between both states. As to the issue of execution of rights of Germans in Poland and Polonia in German the breakthrough took place as a result of signing Treaty on good neighborhood and friendly cooperation on 17.06.1991. On both sides though there are the charges formulated about the lack of full execution of the Treaty provisions. Biodiversity linked to fruit cultivation plays a key role in terms of the availability of quality products and nutraceutical compounds for the food industry. Thus underutilized species such as Sorbus domestica L. can be an important resource. The aim of this study was to evaluate 31 local accessions from different growing areas on the Island of Sicily and characterize the fruits according to the biometric-carpological features that constitute their quality in order to understand the potential that this species may have not only regarding the recovery and preservation of genetic resources in the Mediterranean area but also the nutraceutical compounds it offers.

2019

The volume includes a textual revision, the first Italian translation and a commentary on the Minor Declamations 244-292 ascribed to Quintilian. The commentary, non only addresses the many critical issues posed by a particularly complex text, but also exploits the results of the strand studies on declamation that has been flourished in the last 20 years involving rhetorical as well as literary and anthropological perspective. The introductory essay by Lucia Pasetti (coordinator of the PRIN project supporting the research) focuses on the issues of textual typology and relationship with literary and juridical tradition and addresses the thorny question of Quintilian authorship. Il volume cont…

The influence of risk factors on the onset and outcome of psychosis: What we learned from the GAP study

2020

The GAP multidisciplinary study carried out in South London, recruited 410 first episode of psychosis patients and 370 controls; the aim was to elucidate the multiple genetic and environmental factors influencing the onset and outcome of psychosis. The study demonstrated the risk increasing effect of adversity in childhood (especially parental loss, abuse, and bullying) on onset of psychosis especially positive symptoms. Adverse life events more proximal to onset, being from an ethnic minority, and cannabis use also played important roles; indeed, one quarter of new cases of psychosis could be attributed to use of high potency cannabis. The “jumping to conclusions” bias appeared to mediate …
