We critically review the current data on the therapeutic effects and basic biological activities of the natural compound curcumin on various oral diseases: a sound experimental evidence appears to support its possible use against relevant pathologies which include cancer, radiotherapy- and chemotherapy-induced mucositis, lichen planus and periodontitis. This versatility of curcumin depends on its ability of interacting with multiple targets, though inhibition of the transcription factor NF-kB can be identified as one of the principal mechanisms. Several therapeutic regimens have been evaluated to treat OLP and pain related, but often without high level of evidence. Objectives: To analyze psychological profiles, pain and oral symptoms in patients with oral lichen planus (OLP). Materials and methods: 300 patients with keratotic OLP (K-OLP; reticular, papular, plaque-like subtypes), 300 patients with predominant non-keratotic OLP (nK-OLP; erythematosus atrophic, erosive, ulcerative, bullous subtypes) and 300 controls were recruited in 15 universities. The aim of this study was to evaluate “in vivo” the oral microcirculatory characteristics in patients with oral lichen planus (OLP) and to discover any differences in microcirculation in comparison with healthy patients. Oral lichen planus in children: An Italian case series

Oral lichen planus usually occurs in adults; there are no clear data regarding the incidence and the clinical features of oral lichen planus in children. This paper reports clinical findings, treatments, and outcomes of 13 Italian patients with oral lichen planus in childhood diagnosed between 2001 and 2021. The most common finding was keratotic lesions with reticular or papular/plaque-like patterns, confined to the tongue in seven patients. Although oral lichen planus in childhood is rare and the malignant transformation index is unknown, specialists must be aware of its characteristics and oral mucosal lesions must be correctly diagnosed and managed.
