In-flight temperature of solid micrometric powders during cold spray additive manufacturing

2020

Abstract During cold dynamic gas spray additive manufacturing, the thermal field within particles is generally simplified by a state of an instantaneous uniform distribution over the particle's media at any position inside and outside the De-Laval nozzle. This paper addresses critical discussions using analytical and computational analysis of the transient heat transfer within the solid particles due to the convective exchange with the flowing gas. An analytical criterion depicts conditions of instantaneous uniform temperature over the range of typical cold spray data including various particle thermal conductivity, particle size range, dragging velocities, gas nature and gas setting condit…

KEY FACTORS FOR SUCCESS IN AGRIFOOD FIRMS: THE CASE OF SPANISH FRUIT & VEGETABLES COOPERATIVES

2015

Influence Of The Electrical Parameters On The Fabrication Of Copper Nanowires Into Anodic Alumina Templates

2009

Abstract Metallic copper nanowires have been grown into the pores of alumina membranes by electrodeposition from an aqueous solution containing CuSO 4 . and H 3 BO 3 at pH 3. In order to study the influence of the electrical parameters on growth and structure of nanowires, different deposition potentials (both in the region where hydrogen evolution reaction is allowed or not) and voltage perturbation modes (constant potential or unipolar pulsed depositions) were applied. In all cases, pure polycrystalline Cu nanowires were fabricated into template pores, having lengths increasing with the total deposition time. These nanowires were self-standing, because they retain their vertical orientati…

Granulometric analysis of corneal endothelium specular images by using a germ–grain model

2007

Specular microscopy is widely used to study the human corneal endothelium status in vivo. In this paper, the corneal endothelium is represented as a binary image composed of the cell inscribed circles. The granulometric distribution function of the complement of this image is used as a functional descriptor, which provides information about the shape, size and spatial arrangement of cells. Experimental evaluation using bootstrap techniques shows its ability to discriminate between controls and pathological cases. It represents a reliable and graphical alternative to the classical indices (cell density, hexagonality and coefficient of variation of cell areas), which behave poorly when detect…

La participación de los grupos de interés como instrumento de responsabilidad social corporativa. El caso de las pequeñas y medianas empresas familia…

2011

In this paper we analyze the characteristics of stakeholder engagement in small and medium-sized family enterprises (SMFEs). The paper aims to understand the reason, the meaning and the manner to involve stakeholders in this kind of firm. The stakeholder engagement has been linked with corporate social responsibility, stating that firm that take initiatives to engage its stakeholders can be described as socially responsible. This claim is not always acceptable because we have to understand when the different forms of stakeholder engagement are consistent with the concept of corporate social responsibility. The focus in SMFEs is justified, on the one hand, for its specific characteristics an…

The eggshell is an important physiological structure for the embryo. It enables gas exchange, physical protection and is a calcium reserve. Most squamates (lizards, snakes, worm lizards) lay parchment-shelled eggs, whereas only some gekkotan species, a subgroup of lizards, have strongly calcified eggshells. In viviparous (live-bearing) squamates the eggshell is reduced or completely missing (hereafter “shell-less”). Recent studies showed that life-history strategies of gekkotan species differ between species with parchment- and rigid-shelled eggshells. Here we test if the three different eggshell types found in the squamates are also associated with different life-history strategies. We fir…

Finite Sample Sizes of the GRS Test in the Presence of Dynamic Correlation and Conditional Heteroskedasticity

2017

This paper investigates the finite sample properties of the widely-used Gibbons, Ross, Shanken (1989) (GRS) test in the presence of both conditional correlation and conditional heteroskedasticity. It finds that the GRS test exhibits serious size distortions resulting in potentially misleading statistical inferences. The correct critical values, as reported in the study, are considerably larger than suggested by the GRS test.

Business cycle volatility and country zize :evidence for a sample of OECD countries

2008

The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between business cycle volatility and country size using quarterly data for a sample of OECD countries over 1960-2000. The results suggest very strongly that the relationship between country size and business cycle volatility is negative and statistically significant. This finding is very robust, suggesting that country size does matter, at least for the severity of cyclical fluctuations.

Pilot applications of internally contracted multireference coupled cluster theory, and how to choose the cluster operator properly.

2011

The internally contracted multireference coupled cluster (icMRCC) method allows a highly accurate description of both static and dynamic correlation with a computational scaling similar to single reference coupled cluster theory. The authors show that the method can lose its orbital invariance and size consistency when no special care is taken in the elimination of redundant excitations. Using the BeH(2) model system, four schemes are compared which differ in their treatment of linear dependencies between excitations of different rank (such as between singles and doubles). While the energy curves agree within tens of μE(h) when truncating the cluster operator at double excitations (icMRCCSD…

Quantum effects in the capture of charged particles by dipolar polarizable symmetric top molecules. II. Interplay between electrostatic and gyroscopi…

2013

ally nonadiabatic channel treatment of the capture of charged particles by dipolar polarizable symmetric top molecules with the aim to reveal quantum effects in the collision dynamics. In general, these effects are related to the discrete nature of the intrinsic, orbital, and total angular momenta, to the quantum character of passage of collision partners across effective potential barriers and drops, and to the interplay of two types of anisotropic interactions, the gyroscopic (Coriolis) and the electrostatic ones. The latter feature, in principle, leads to a coupling of capture channels. In the calculation of capture cross sections or rate coefficients, however, this coupling can be ignor…
