Abstract The compatibility of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) with poly(styrene‐co‐vinyl phenol) (PS‐VPh) with two different contents of vinyl phenol, 5.8 and 7.2%, in dilute tetrahydrofuran solutions has been investigated by size exclusion chromatography and fluorescence spectroscopy at 25°C. The chromatographic technique permits the evaluation of the preferential solvation at different PMMA/PS‐VPh ratios. Changes in the fluorescence properties of PS‐VPh, caused by its association with PMMA, were used to obtain the fraction of copolymer bound to PMMA at diverse PMMA compositions. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy techniques and data analyses have become widely available, are easy to use, and are convenient for studies of various biosamples, especially in biomedical science. Yet, cultivation of cells and purification of cell components are costly, often methodically challenging, and time and labor consuming. Therefore, reduction of the sample amount is of high value. Abstract Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) has been employed for a fast quality control of commercial essential oils from different plant species. 47 samples were obtained from Algerian and Spanish market and directly measured, without any previous treatment, by attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform Infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), in the wavenumber region between 4000 and 550 cm−1. Abstract Crude oil samples from different Iranian petrol resources in both, raw and mixture forms have been characterized by attenuated total reflectance mid infrared spectroscopy. Obtained spectra were classified by chemometric techniques to propose a method for geological based classification of crude oil samples. Totally 251 samples from 7 petrol fields and 3 mixtures were analyzed. The H-Point Standard Additions Method (HPSAM) is proposed in order to resolve overlapping peaks in liquid chromatography by using a conventional fluorescence detector. The method uses as analytical signals the heights or the areas obtained at two previously selected emission wavelengths, and good results are obtained for highly overlapping peaks with highly overlapping fluorescence spectra. Abstract A partial least squares (PLS) Fourier transform Raman spectrometry procedure based on the measurement of solid samples contained inside standard glass vials, has been developed for direct and reagent-free determination of sodium saccharin and sodium cyclamate in table top sweeteners. The dermatological activity of cosmetic formulations containing alpha-hydroxyacids depends on their different chemical forms, and it is therefore useful to determine these species in the finished products. In the present report a new procedure for studying the protonation equilibria of glycolic and lactic acids by stopped-flow Fourier-transform infra-red (FTIR) spectrometry is described. Nitric oxide (NO) is a free radical species with multiple physiological functions. Because of low concentrations and short half-life of NO, its direct measurement in living tissues remains a difficult task. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spin trapping is probably one of the best suitable platforms for development of new methods for quantification of biological NO. The most reliable EPR-based approaches developed so far are based on the reaction of NO with various iron complexes, both intrinsic and exogenously applied. This review is focused on the current state and perspectives of EPR spin trapping for experimental and clinical NO biology.
