Enhanced Sieving of C2‐Hydrocarbon from Methane by Fluoro‐Functionalization of In‐MOF with Robust Stability
2021
Developing efficient adsorbent materials is crucial for adsorption and separation to realize the purification of energy source and raw chemicals. Here, we report a novel and robust 3D In-based MOF built up with fluorine-functionalized ligands, QMOF-2F, with improved separation properties of C2-light hydrocarbons over methane at room temperature respect isoreticular non-fluorinated MOF. QMOF-2F shows a remarkable chemical stability in different solvents, including water, and pH (2-12). DFT calculations support the key role of fluorine-functionalization on the improved performance of QMOF-2F.
Anti-/Pro-Oxidant Behavior of Naturally Occurring Molecules in Polymers and Biopolymers: A Brief Review
2019
Polymers and biopolymers are continuously subjected to the action of different stress factors, such as oxygen, heat, UV light, mechanical stress, humidity, etc., during their processing and service life, undergoing overall oxidative degradation, that causes performance and property deterioration. To improve the resistance at high temperatures and long-term weatherability of the polymers and biopolymers, usually, during their manufacturing, synthetic antioxidants and UV-light stabilizers are added. In the past decade, several concerns related to the impact of the synthetic stabilizers have emerged, and to reduce their negative effect on human health and the environment, their replacement wit…
A new macrocyclic dipyrazolate salt of diazatetraester structure able to efficiently and selectively interact with psychotropic phenethylammonium sal…
2002
Abstract The equilibrium stability constants (Ks) of a series of ammonium pyrazolate complexes [L22−]2RN(R′)H2+ (7, R′=H and 8, R′=Me) formed from a new macrocyclic disodium dipyrazolate salt of diazatetraester structure 6[L22−] 2Na+ and ammonium salts [RNH3+X− or RN(Me)H2+X−] of psychotropic drugs and neurotransmitter catecholamines has been evaluated by electrochemical methods in DMSO solution. The resulting Ks values demonstrate that in general, the diazatetraester crown-derived dipyrazolate salt 6 exerts a stronger complexing effect over phenethylammonium ions than that of the dioxatetraester crown-derived disodium dipyrazolate salt 2 previously reported. Interestingly, complexes formed…
Selective photocatalytic oxidation of 3-pyridinemethanol on platinized acid/base modified TiO2
2021
TiO2 catalysts, modified with acidic or alkaline solutions and then platinized, were used for the partial photocatalytic oxidation of 3-pyridinemethanol to 3-pyridinemethanal and vitamin B-3 under environmentally friendly conditions. The reaction took place in water under UVA light and air oxygen. Catalysts were characterized by TEM, photoluminescence, DRIFT-IR, Raman, DRS, XPS, and photocurrent measurements. The photocatalytic activity results show that Pt loading of untreated samples leads to a significant activity improvement (hence product yield) as much as acid and alkaline treatments do. Moreover, the alkaline treated TiO2 samples exhibit a further increase in activity after loading w…
Quercetin as natural stabilizing agent for bio-polymer
2014
The introduction of antioxidants in polymers is the main way to prevent or delay the degradation process. In particular natural antioxidants receive attention in the food industry also because of their presumed safety. In this work bio-polymers, i.e. a commercial starch-based polymer (Mater-Bi®) and a bio-polyester (PLA), and a bio-polyether (PEO) were additivated with quercetin, a natural flavonoid antioxidants, in order to formulate bio-based films for ecosustainable packaging and outdoor applications. The photo-oxidation behavior of unstabilized and quercetin stabilized films was analyzed and compared with the behavior of films additivated with a commercial synthetic light stabilizer. Th…
Towards storage-stable high-content recycled tyre rubber modified bitumen
2018
The addition of crumb rubber particles as bitumen modifier can be currently considered as a well-established alternative to conventional polymers for bitumen modification. However, Recycle Tyre Rubber (RTR) modified binders still present drawbacks such as poor mix workability and hot storage stability. Within this study the authors try unlocking the full potential of devulcanised tyre rubber-heavy oils blend, named Liquid Rubber (LR), by exploring the possibility of tailoring recycled polymer modified bitumen with unconventional high-content of RTR and designed to overcome the above mentioned technological problems of RTR modified bitumen while keeping its advantages. Results show that LR-b…
Melt stabilization of wet polyamide 6
2002
Abstract Melt processing of polycondensate polymers must be carried out after careful drying in order to avoid any hydrolytic chain scission caused by the presence of water or other small molecules. In this work, the effect of two different antioxidants on the processing and flow properties of a polyamide 6 sample not dried before processing operations has been studied. One of these stabilizers seems to protect the wet polymer from hydrolytic chain scission. This action has been interpreted considering that the stabilizer hydrolyses instead of the polyamide macromolecules.
Synthesis and properties of aromatic ionenes
1993
Cationic polyelectrolytes with aromatic segments can be synthesized by a repetitive alkylation reaction. The structure of the products, their synthesis and their solubility are described. All ionenes are not, or only in small amounts, water soluble. The best solubility can be achieved by mixtures of polar protic and aprotic solvents. Variations of the counterion produces sufficient solubility in THF. All ionenes show a typical polyelectrolyte effect. The thermal stability of aromatic ionenes and the glass transition temperature is dominated by the nature of the counterion. The molecular weight of oligomers can be described by using a combination of a conductive titration method and an ion s…
Electrically conductive TCNQ complexes of aromatic ionenes
1995
New types of complex salts of 7,7',8,8'-tetracyanoquinodimethane with aromatic ionenes and their model compounds were prepared. The electrical conductivity and the activation energy were measured and discussed in relation to their structure. The effects of the nature of the aromatic unit, and the flexibility and rigidity of the polymer backbone were compared with the corresponding model compounds. The effects of frequency and temperature are discussed in terms of the molecular structure of the complex. The electroconductivity at room temperature of the 1 :1 polymer complex salts was found to be between 2 x 10 -4 and 7 x 10 -5 S/cm, while that of the model complex salts was between 1.3 x 10 …
Intra-Helical Salt Bridge Contribution to Membrane Protein Insertion.
2021
ABSTRACTSalt bridges between negatively (D, E) and positively charged (K, R, H) amino acids play an important role in protein stabilization. This has a more prevalent effect in membrane proteins where polar amino acids are exposed to a very hydrophobic environment. In transmembrane (TM) helices the presence of charged residues can hinder the insertion of the helices into the membrane. This can sometimes be avoided by TM region rearrangements after insertion, but it is also possible that the formation of salt bridges could decrease the cost of membrane integration. However, the presence of intra-helical salt bridges in TM domains and their effect on insertion has not been properly studied ye…
