Roman Catholic-Orthodox dialogue, due to the doctrinal similitude of both ecclesial traditions, raises the greatest hopes as to unification in faith and in church teachings. Over nearly four hundred years of work by the Joint Commission for the theological dialogue between the Roman Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church on the global scene, it has born much good fruit. On September 1st 1726 Palermo was hit by a violent earthquake. Although it did not bring about the destruction of the city, the earthquake caused widespread and extensive damage to the architectural heritage. The local insti- tutions carried out a series of actions involving representatives of the technical culture. These actions affected the subsequent appearance of the urban pattern and influenced the construction methods of the time. Crossing the data taken from chronicles of the time, from maps produced after the earthquake and above all copious archival documents, the research aims to reconstruct the state in which Palermo was after that tragic event, highlighting a number of aspects. …

Preliminary Study of the Mural Paintings of Sotterra Church in Paola (Cosenza, Italy)

A multi-analytical approach was employed to study wall paintings located in the Sotterra church at Paola, in the province of Cosenza, Italy. The site is an underground church (hence the name of Sotterra, which means “under the earth”) rediscovered in the second half of the 19th century, during the building works of the Madonna del Carmine church on the same area. This underground church preserves valuable mural paintings having different styles. The construction’s dating and overlapped modifications made until the site was abandoned is also debated. Il contributo costituisce il primo studio unitario sulla catacomba e sulle aree funerarie cristiane sub-divo delle Regiones III, IV e V di Sabratha (Libia). After the earthquake of 365 A.D., the gradual process of Christianisation that involved the territories of North Africa left many signs in the Regio Tripolitania. Sabratha became a diocesan centre during the 4th and 5th centuries, and the Paleochristian catacomb, excavated after the Peace of the Church in year 313, is the first attestation of the new faith, togerther with the open-air funerary areas distributed between the episcopal complex of the Regio III, the Oceanus Thermae, the Theatre in the Regio IV and the Temple of Hercules.

W artykule przedstawiono najważniejsze etapy dyskusji wokół początków Kościoła od teologii liberalnej do Antona Vögtle. Artykuł jest kontynuacją międzywojennej historii gliwickich franciszkanów i genezy powstania samodzielnej jednostki kościelnej w tzw. dzielnicy hutniczej, zamieszczonym w tomie 35 „Studiów Teologiczno-Historycznych Śląska Opolskiego” z 2015 r. Autor tym razem przybliża historię kuracji Serca Pana Jezusa w Gliwicach w latach 1925–1945. Od czasu jej ustanowienia gliwiccy franciszkanie prowadzili w tamtejszej dzielnicy hutniczej ożywioną pracę duszpasterską.
