Magnetic properties of six-coordinated high-spin cobalt(II) complexes: Theoretical background and its application

2008

Abstract In this contribution we study and analyse the influence of the different parameters involved in the magnetic susceptibility of six-coordinated high-spin Co(II) complexes. We propose an empirical expression to fit the magnetic susceptibility of polycrystalline samples of mononuclear Co(II) complexes with an axial distortion, the variable parameters being Δ (axial distortion), α (orbital reduction factor) and λ (spin–orbit coupling). This expression avoids solving the 12 × 12 matrix associated to the distortion of the 4 T 1g term. In order to take into account the magnetic coupling ( J ) in the polynuclear Co(II) complexes, a perturbational approach is proposed to describe their magn…

Testing Mode-Coupling Theory for a Supercooled Binary Lennard-Jones Mixture I: The van Hove Correlation Function

1995

We report the results of a large scale computer simulation of a binary supercooled Lennard-Jones liquid. We find that at low temperatures the curves for the mean squared displacement of a tagged particle for different temperatures fall onto a master curve when they are plotted versus rescaled time $tD(T)$, where $D(T)$ is the diffusion constant. The time range for which these curves follow the master curve is identified with the $\alpha$-relaxation regime of mode-coupling theory (MCT). This master curve is fitted well by a functional form suggested by MCT. In accordance with idealized MCT, $D(T)$ shows a power-law behavior at low temperatures. The critical temperature of this power-law is t…

Reactivity of Nickel(II) Porphyrins in oCVD Processes—Polymerisation, Intramolecular Cyclisation and Chlorination

2019

Abstract Oxidative chemical vapour deposition of (5,15‐diphenylporphyrinato)nickel(II) (NiDPP) with iron(III) chloride as oxidant yielded a conjugated poly(metalloporphyrin) as a highly coloured thin film, which is potentially useful for optoelectronic applications. This study clarified the reactive sites of the porphyrin monomer NiDPP by HRMS, UV/Vis/NIR spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry and EPR spectroscopy in combination with quantum chemical calculations. Unsubstituted meso positions are essential for successful polymerisation, as demonstrated by varying the porphyrin meso substituent pattern from di‐ to tri‐ and tetraphenyl substitution. DFT calculations support the proposed radical oxi…

The 1-way on-line coupled atmospheric chemistry model system MECO(n) – Part 3: Meteorological evaluation of the on-line coupled system

2012

Abstract. Three detailed meteorological case studies are conducted with the global and regional atmospheric chemistry model system ECHAM5/MESSy(→COSMO/MESSy)n, shortly named MECO(n), in order to assess the general performance of the on-line coupling of the regional model COSMO to the global model ECHAM5. The cases are characterised by intense weather systems in Central Europe: an intense cold frontal passage in March 2010, a convective frontal event in July 2007, and the high impact winter storm "Kyrill" in January 2007. Simulations are performed with the new on-line-coupled model system and compared to classical, off-line COSMO hindcast simulations driven by ECMWF analyses. Precipitation o…

One-dimensional oxalato-bridged copper(II) complex possessing two structurally different metallic centres

2001

Abstract The crystal structure of the oxalato-bridged copper(II) compound [Cu2(μ-ox)2(ampy)3]n 1 (ox=oxalate dianion, ampy=2-amino-3-methylpyridine) consists of infinite corrugated one-dimensional chains in which two types of copper(II) centres, five- and six-coordinated, are bridged sequentially by asymmetric bis-bidentate oxalato ligands. Magnetic susceptibility measurements show the occurrence of a significant intrachain antiferromagnetic coupling (J=−22.9 cm −1 ) .

Synthesis, crystal structures and magnetic properties of bis(μ-dialkoxo)-bridged linear trinuclear copper(II) complexes with aminoalcohol ligands: a …

2012

The bis(μ-dialkoxo)-bridged trinuclear copper(II) complexes [Cu(3)(ap)(4)(ClO(4))(2)EtOH] (1), [Cu(3)(ap)(4)(NO(3))(2)] (2), [Cu(3)(ap)(4)Br(2)] (3) and [Cu(3)(ae)(4)(NO(3))(2)] (4) (ae = 2-aminoethanolato and ap = 3-aminopropanolato) have been synthesised via self-assembly from chelating aminoalcohol ligands with the corresponding copper(II) salts. The complexes are characterised by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses and variable temperature magnetic measurements. The crystal structures of complexes 1-4 consist of slightly bent linear or linear trinuclear [Cu(3)(aa)(4)](2+) (aa = aminoalcoholato) units to which the perchlorate, nitrate or bromide anions are weakly coordinated. The a…

A DFT study of the Karplus-type dependence of vicinal 3J(Sn-C-X- C), X=N,O,S, in organotin(iv) compounds: Application to conformationally flexible sy…

2010

ZORA relativistic and non-relativistic DFT protocols have been used to investigate vicinal coupling constants, (3)J(Sn-C-X-C), in several organotin(iv) compounds, with particular emphasis on cyclic alpha-aminoorganostannanes. The dependence of the coupling constant on the heteroatom X (X = N,O,S) in the coupling path, and, for X = N, its substituents, has been studied in detail. The electron-withdrawing strength of the N-substituents has been found to strongly affect the magnitude and shape of the Karplus-type curve. The results obtained for the simple model systems, having no or little conformational flexibility, have helped in rationalizing the data concerning real flexible cyclic systems…

One-bond 1 J (15 N,H) coupling constants at sp2 -hybridized nitrogen of Schiff bases, enaminones and similar compounds: A theoretical study

2020

1 J(15 N,H) coupling constants for enaminones and NH-forms of intramolecularly hydrogen-bonded Schiff bases as model compounds for sp2 -hybridized nitrogen atoms are evaluated using density functional theory (DFT) to find the optimal functionals and basis sets. Ammonia is used as a test molecule and its one-bond coupling constant is compared with experiment. A methylamine Schiff base of a truncated molecule of gossypol is used for checking the performance of selected B3LYP, O3LYP, PBE, BHandH, and APFD density functionals and standard, modified, and dedicated basis sets for coupling constants. Both in vacuum and in chloroform, modeled by the simple continuum model of solvent, the modified b…
