Operating leverage and the cost of debt in European agri-food firms

Aim of study: To analyse the effect that operating leverage exerts on the cost of debt of agri-food firms in Europe, both in isolation and indirectly through its other risk factors.Area of study: We used panel data made up of 18,360 European firms from 2009 to 2016 (146,880 observations).Material and methods: The data were extracted from the ORBIS database and EUROSTAT. La disciplina tedesca (e quella austriaca) sull'ordine di protezione europeo e sulla tutela della vittima

La Direttiva 2011/99/UE, inserendosi nel contesto delle azioni dell'Unione europea in materia di tutela delle vittime, ha previsto il c.d. ordine di protezione europeo: misura volta ad assicurare la protezione della persona offesa dal reato, a prescindere dallo Stato membro in cui essa si trovi. Nel dare seguito alla direttiva, i diversi Paesi hanno adottato soluzioni parzialmente differenti. Il contributo si incentra sulla disciplina introdotta in Germania e in Austria, dove la corrispondente riforma si colloca nel quadro di peculiari scelte normative di fondo, inerenti al ruolo della vittima nel processo penale.

In this article Orientalism, a special hegemonic discourse about "the Orient" by Europeans is discussed by focusing on how it is manifested in a "Western" view of India. Orientalism as a discourse about the Orient is a concept first coined by Edward Said in his book Orientalism (1978) and contains a long history of European way of relating to the Orient as a counterpart of European/Western culture. This paper aims at presenting an argument in favour of the need for a prompt update of the European legislation on air quality, by taking its cue from the current situation in Italy. The paper starts by providing a definition of outdoor air pollution and by referring to the most influential Italian scientific studies on the main health risks connected. Comparing the morphology of urban patterns in Europe

The sprawling urban patterns typical for the outskirts of many europen metropolitan areas seem to be amorphous and it is difficult to find references for describing them. However, for managing sprawl it seems important to have quantitative descriptors, which allow distinguishing different types of urban patterns and which are less ambiguous than traditional density measures. a better knowledge of these patterns should also point to the underlying context of urbanisation at their root. More concretely: to what extent are planned patterns different from less planned ones? Do planned or unplanned patterns show comparable morphological features?
