Abstract Titanium dioxide samples were prepared in the presence of different amounts of fluorine via hydrothermal method. It has been found that the presence of fluoride influenced the physico-chemical properties of TiO2 in various ways as polymorphic form stability, surface hydroxylation, generation of hydroxyl radicals under irradiation and formation of Ti3+ centers and oxygen vacancies. The generation rate of OH radicals was investigated by the photoluminescence technique in the presence of terephthalic acid. X-ray diffractometry indicated that fluorine stabilized the anatase TiO2. Photocatalytic thin films of TiO2 formed by a sol-gel process using titanium tetraisopropoxide as the precursor

Abstract Thin TiO 2 films were prepared with the dip-coating technique by using sols deriving from titanium tetraisopropoxide. TiO 2 films were formed on glass substrates previously covered by a SiO 2 layer obtained from a tetraethylortosilicate sol. The films, after a thermal treatment at 673 K, mainly consisted of TiO 2 anatase. The samples were characterised by X-ray diffraction, UV–Vis spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. The photoactivity of the various films was tested by using as probe reaction the photo-oxidation of 2-propanol in gas-solid regime. Photocatalytic activity of anatase-nickel ferrite heterostructures

The simple co-precipitation route was used to couple commercial TiO2 anatase nanopowder with nickel ferrite (NiFe2O4). The morphology and the crystalline structure of composite nanoparticles were characterised by TEM, N2 adsorption-desorption, XRD and Rietveld refinement, XPS and XAS. The optical and magnetic properties were investigated. After co-precipitation NiFe2O4 nanoparticles, composed of spinel ferrite crystal phase, were formed on the surface of TiO2 anatase nanopowder. Preparation and photoactivity of electrophoretic TiO2coating film

TiO2 thin films have been obtained by a sol-electrophoretic deposition method on metallic Ti and Pt substrates. X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy were used to investigate the structure and morphology of plated materials. Annealed TiO2 films mainly are formed in anatase structure with different morphology depending on substrate material. Light induced potential measurements indicate that the morphology substantially have an impact on photoactivity of TiO2 thin films.

Homogeneous Langmuir-Blodgett Film of Double-Chain Ammonium Amphiphile Complexed with Anionic Polymer

Heterogeneous textures suggesting the coexistence of a fluid and a solid phase were found both in a surface monolayer and in a deposited Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) film of double-chain ammonium amphiphiles by fluorescence microscopy. Although an annealing of the surface monolayer at 40°C allowed crystal growth, the heterogeneous phase separation remained in the LB film. A drastic change of the fluorescence image shows that the recrystallization of the complexed monolayer with anionic polymers conducted the homogeneous monolayer.

Nonlinear response of a batch BZ oscillator to the addition of the anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate.

The response of the Belousov-Zhabotinsy (BZ) system to the addition of increasing amounts of the anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) was monitored at 25.0 degrees C in stirred batch conditions. The presence of SDS in the reaction mixture influences the oscillatory parameters, i.e., induction period and oscillation period, to an extent that depends on the surfactant concentration. The experimental results have shown that the induction period increases slightly on increasing surfactant concentration and, then, a further increase in the [SDS] leads to an enhancement while the oscillation period increases monotonously on increasing SDS concentration. A rare anion-π complex between bromide and a neutral receptor is reported and related receptor systems are studied with a series of anions. The interaction is observed in the solid state and in solution, and further evidence for it is obtained by a computational study.

Surface and Electronic Features of Fluorinated TiO 2 and Their Influence on the Photocatalytic Degradation of 1-Methylnaphthalene

International audience; Surface fluorination improves the photocatalytic activity of TiO2, and the influences of various features of fluorinated TiO2 (TiO2–F) have often been discussed in the literature. The present paper addresses the changes induced by surface fluorination on the morphological, structural, surface, and electronic features of TiO2.
