Factors influencing transfer accuracy of cone beam CT-derived template-based implant placement.

2011

Objectives The aim of the present investigation was the analysis of the factors presumptively affecting the accuracy outcome of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT)-derived laboratory-based surgical guides for implant placement in partially edentulous patients. Materials and methods In 52 partially edentulous patients a total of 132 implants were placed following CBCT diagnostics with the aid of laboratory-fabricated, tooth-borne templates. Based on the image fusion technique measurements were done to calculate linear and angular deviations between virtually planned and placed implants. The implant sites were stratified according to four factors that presumably may influence the transfer ac…

Influence of trifocal intraocular lenses on standard autorefraction and aberrometer-based autorefraction.

2019

To study the agreement between manifest refraction and objective refraction measured with two autorefractor models and an aberrometer in eyes implanted with a trifocal diffractive intraocular lens (IOL).IOA Madrid Innova Ocular, Madrid, Spain.Prospective comparative cohort study. An autorefractor keratometer (KR-8800), based on a Scheiner double pinhole, and a 3-dimension wavefront topography aberrometer system (OPD-Scan III), based on the scanning-slit retinoscopy principle, were used to obtain objective refraction readings. In addition, lower-order Zernike coefficients (Z) were used to calculate objective refraction. A set of 7 different results was obtained in power vector notation (spher…

Visual quality with corneo-scleral contact lenses after intracorneal ring segment (ICRS) implantation for keratoconus management

2019

Purpose: To evaluate the visual quality results when fitting a corneo-scleral contact lens (CScL) after intracorneal ring segment (ICRS) implantation for keratoconus management. Methods: Twenty-seven eyes of 27 patients with keratoconus underwent ICRS implantation and had CScL fitted as their visual quality was unsatisfactory with their spectacles or contact lenses. Patients received a complete eye examination, refraction and visual acuity assessment, anterior eye biomicroscopy, ocular fundus examination, corneal topographic analysis, endothelial-cell count, and visual quality assessment using contrast sensitivity and aberrometry tests. A diagnostic trial set was used in the fitting process…

Functional Rehabilitation of Mandibular Continuity Defects Using Autologous Bone and Dental Implants – Prognostic Value of Bone Origin, Radiation The…

2008

Aim: The aim of this retrospective study was to investigate prognostic parameters for the rehabilitation of mandibular continuity defects with free autologous bone and dental implants for patients after intraoral squamous cell carcinoma. Methods: Following potential prognostic factors for implant survival were analyzed: bony bed (local bone versus augmented iliac crest bone), radiation dose (no radiation, <50 Gy, ≥50 Gy) and implant dimensions. Kaplan-Meier survival estimates of the inserted implants were performed. Results: After 5 years, the cumulative survival rate of all investigated implants was 82.6%. Dental implantation into…

Knowledge, aptitudes, and preferences in implant dentistry teaching/training among undergraduate dental students at the University of Barcelona

2017

Background Oral implant rehabilitation should be considered a treatment option for any edentulous patient and Implant Dentistry is currently a discipline taught in the undergraduate formation. The level of knowledge acquired and how the students perceive the quality of training in Implant Dentistry could assess to know if it is necessary to improve the syllabus. Material and Methods A questionnaire was developed with 11 questions: Basic knowledge (7); Perception of training received (2); Ways in which students would receive training (2). To be responded anonymously and voluntarily for undergraduates students in the Faculty of Dentistry (University of Barcelona, Spain). Results One hundred a…

Single-blind randomized clinical trial to evaluate clinical and radiological outcomes after one year of immediate versus delayed implant placement su…

2013

Purpose: To evaluate and compare peri-implant health, marginal bone loss and success of immediate and delayed implant placement for rehabilitation with full-arch fixed prostheses. Material and Methods: The present study was a prospective, randomized, single-blind, clinical preliminary trial. Patients were randomized into two treatment groups. In Group A implants were placed immediately post-extraction and in Group B six months after extraction. The following control time-points were established: one week, six months and twelve months after loading. Measurements were taken of peri-implant crevicular fluid volume, plaque index, gingival retraction, keratinized mucosa, probing depth, modified …

Drilling dimension effects in early stages of osseointegration and implant stability in a canine model

2015

Background: This study histologically evaluated two implant designs: a classic thread design versus another specifically designed for healing chamber formation placed with two drilling protocols. Material and Methods: Forty dental implants (4.1 mm diameter) with two different macrogeometries were inserted in the tibia of 10 Beagle dogs, and maximum insertion torque was recorded. Drilling techniques were: until 3.75 mm (regular-group); and until 4.0 mm diameter (overdrilling-group) for both implant designs. At 2 and 4 weeks, samples were retrieved and processed for histomorphometric analysis. For torque and BIC (bone-to-implant contact) and BAFO (bone area fraction occupied), a general-linea…

A Randomized Trial of a Schlemm's Canal Microstent with Phacoemulsification for Reducing Intraocular Pressure in Open-Angle Glaucoma

2014

Purpose To assess the safety and effectiveness of the Hydrus Microstent (Ivantis, Inc, Irvine, CA) with concurrent cataract surgery (CS) for reducing intraocular pressure (IOP) in open-angle glaucoma (OAG). Design Prospective, multicenter, randomized, single-masked, controlled clinical trial. Participants One hundred eyes from 100 patients 21 to 80 years of age with OAG and cataract with IOP of 24 mmHg or less with 4 or fewer hypotensive medications and a washed-out diurnal IOP (DIOP) of 21 to 36 mmHg. Methods On the day of surgery, patients were randomized 1:1 to undergo CS with the microstent or CS alone. Postoperative follow-up was at 1 day, 1 week, and 1, 3, 6, 12, 18, and 24 months. Wa…

European study of the efficacy of a cross-linked gel stent for the treatment of glaucoma

2020

indexation en cours.; PURPOSE: This study investigated the efficacy and safety of a cross-linked collagen stent (XEN 45) with or without cataract surgery in the treatment of glaucoma. SETTING: Real-life setting. DESIGN: Prospective, open-label, multicenter clinical trial. METHODS: Eligible patients with glaucoma inadequately controlled by treatment, or poor compliance or intolerance to topical therapy were included. Patients were divided into those with implant only (solo group; phakic and pseudophakic patients) and implant combined with cataract surgery (combo group). Differences in average intraocular pressure (IOP) and number of medications between baseline and study end (12 months), and…

Posterior‐chamber phakic implantable collamer lenses with a central port: a review

2020

Abstract We aimed to summarize the outcomes reported following the implantation of the V4c implantable collamer lens with a central port (ICL, STAAR Surgical Inc) for myopia correction. A literature search in PubMed, Web of Science and Scopus was carried out to identify publications reporting clinical outcomes of patients who were implanted with the V4c ICL model and had a follow‐up period of at least 6 months. A total of 35 clinical studies published between 2012 and 2020 were included in the present review. A comprehensive analysis of the available data was performed, focusing on visual and refractive outcomes at different time‐points post‐surgery. In addition, adverse events and other pa…
