The contribution is a brief introduction to the workshop “Ifigenia in Aulide di Euripide. Testo, Interpretazione, Drammaturgia, ieri e oggi”, held in Palermo on April 7, 2016, whose intent is here motivated. The meeting pivoted on the idea that a tragedy as IA, burdened with serious textual problems – as evidenced by the latest editions by James Diggle (OCT) and David Kovacs (Loeb) –, may be a good basis for a methodological reassessment, within which textual criticism may interact with interpretative problems and dramaturgical performances, concerning either the time when theatrical representations were performed and their numerous rewritings. Starting from the definition of “performativity” and “gender parody” developed by Judith Butler, this paper aims to investigate the performative functions of male cross-dressing within the dynamics of social categorization in classical Athens. For this purpose I have adopted an eclectic hermeneutic toolbox, borrowing elements from Harvey Sacks’ Membership Categorization Analysis to René Girard’s scapegoat theory. Dove finisce il mondo offers the first Italian translation of two cpmparatively recent stories by Bernardine Evaristo, the unpublished On Top of the World (2006) and I'm Think I'm Going Slightly Mad (I think I'm slightly crazy, 2011) and, in the appendix, the translation of her theoretical essay CSI Europe (2008), which refers to the thematic issues that affect the writer's stories and pervade her entire narrative production. The exemplum, one of the tools of persuasion indicated by ancient rhetoric, is used by Cicero in Caesarian Orations with a careful strategy: the exemplary modeling of Caesar allows to define the boundaries of the correct management of res publica. Therefore, in the Pro Marcello Caesar is already presented as a “visible” exemplum, while in the following Pro Ligario the paradigm of Sulla (i.e. that of a dictator guided by crudelitas) becomes effective in admonishing Caesar from a possible degeneration of power.

Within the vast area of research relating to visual strategies as a rhetorical means par excellence, the paper deals with Cicero’s way of using the term ante oculos and other related expressions in the orations. Due to the frequent and seemingly deliberate use of these expressive means, we can assume that there was a precise communication strategy aimed at exploiting the potential of rhetoric to connect, in an effective and productive way, image and speech, visual strategies and the evocative power of words.

L'intervento è dedicato alla figura e all'opera di Bellino Bissolo, poeta milanese del Duecento, autore di tre testi didattico-moralistici in latino e in distici elegiaci, il «Liber legum moralium», il «De regimine vite et sanitatis» e, soprattutto, lo «Speculum vite». Nella prima parte del testo viene tracciato lo "status quaestionis" relativo all'autore, all'opera e agli studi su di essa.
