Joint Influence of Transverse Compression and Shear-Flexural Stiffness on Rubber V-Belt Mechanics

The elasto-mechanical behavior of a rubber V-belt in the neighborhood of the seating and unseating regions of the pulley is affected by the transverse belt compliance, which produces a gradual radial penetration into the groove and by the shear-flexural deformation, which arches the belt line along the free strand away from the ideal straight path. These effects are always analyzed separately in the literature, but are in close correlation with each other. This lecture describes the matching between the free strand and the wrap region, showing a remarkable reduction of the belt arching and of the contact losses, with respect to the conventional theory.

Functional design of power-split CVTs: An uncoupled hierarchical optimized model

Abstract This paper provides a new model for the preliminary design of compound power-split CVTs. Unlike the existing models, the presented method allows the engineers to prioritize functionality and efficiency of the transmission, while delaying the choice of the involved gear sets’ layout as long as possible. The design approach follows a specific priority order, and each step deals with one particular issue, without mutual interference. A closed-form solution for natural frequencies of thin-walled cylinders with clamped edges

Abstract This paper presents an approximate closed-form solution for the free-vibration problem of thin-walled clamped–clamped cylinders. The used indefinite equations of motion are classic. They derive from Reissner׳s version of Love׳s theory, properly modified with Donnell׳s assumptions, but an innovative approach has been used to find the equations of natural frequencies, based on a solving technique similar to Rayleigh׳s method, on the Hamilton׳s principle and on a proper constructions of the eigenfuctions. A low-cost multispectral imaging system for the characterisation of soil and small vegetation properties using visible and near-infrared reflectance

Current Proximal Sensing technologies are based on multispectral imaging systems able to capture images in a few spectral bands, usually centred in VIS and NIR regions, to derive vegetation indices. However, most of such systems lack an internal radiometric calibration to estimate the actual reflectance of the observed target, making them sensitive to the local radiative environment and requiring a per-session calibration against a reference target. A method to be used for the monitoring of vegetation surfaces is described, which includes the use of a device for measuring the spectral reflectance of vegetation using images acquired with a lightening system based on visible and infrared monoband LEDs and including devignetting, image cropping, radiometric calibration procedures and calculation of reflectance values and vegetation indices.
