Influence of cutting process mechanics on surface integrity and electrochemical behavior of OFHC copper
2014
The authors gratefully acknowledge the support received from IC ARTS and CEA Valduc; International audience; Superfinishing machining has a particular impact on cutting mechanics, surface integrity and local electrochemical behavior. In fact, material removal during this process induces geometrical, mechanical and micro-structural modifications in the machined surface and sub-surface. However, a conventional 3D cutting process is still complex to study in terms of analytical/numerical modeling and experimental process monitoring. So, researchers are wondering if a less intricate configuration such as orthogonal cutting would be able to provide information about surface integrity as close as…
An alternative space-time meshless method for solving transient heat transfer problems with high discontinuous moving sources
2016
International audience; The aim of this work is the development of a space-time diffuse approximation meshless method (DAM) to solve heat equations containing discontinuous sources. This work is devoted to transient heat transfer problems with static and moving heat sources applied on a metallic plate and whose power presents temporal discontinuities. The space-time DAM using classical weight function is convenient for continuous transient heat transfer. Nevertheless, for problems including discontinuities, some spurious oscillations for the temperature field occur. A new weight function, respecting the principle of causality, is used to eradicate the physically unexpected oscillations.
Development and characterization of a bio-based epoxy matrix for high-grade bio-based composites
2019
This study aims to develop 100% bio-based hemp/epoxy composites for semi-structural and structural applications. The thermal and mechanical performances of a 100% bio-based matrix derived from biomassare evaluated and reveal properties in the same order of magnitude as those obtained for polyepoxides based on DGEBA, that means a glass transition temperature of approximately 150°C and mechanical properties in the order of 120MPa for the maximum stress and 3.2 GPa for the tangent apparent modulus. This natural origin matrix is then used for the manufacture of composites reinforced with hemp rovings. The bending properties of these 100% bio-based materials are equivalent to those determined fo…

A note on Hilbert’s weak nullstellensatz
2015
In this article, through a suitable generalization of the well-known notion of spectrum of an element of an arbitrary normed algebra of Operator Theory, it will be possible to give another simple proof of the Hilbert’s Weak Nullstellensatz.
Variational Bethe ansatz approach for dipolar one-dimensional bosons
2020
We propose a variational approximation to the ground state energy of a one-dimensional gas of interacting bosons on the continuum based on the Bethe Ansatz ground state wavefunction of the Lieb-Liniger model. We apply our variational approximation to a gas of dipolar bosons in the single mode approximation and obtain its ground state energy per unit length. This allows for the calculation of the Tomonaga-Luttinger exponent as a function of density and the determination of the structure factor at small momenta. Moreover, in the case of attractive dipolar interaction, an instability is predicted at a critical density, which could be accessed in lanthanide atoms.
Polarization angle dependence of the breathing modes in confined one-dimensional dipolar bosons
2021
Probing the radial collective oscillation of a trapped quantum system is an accurate experimental tool to investigate interactions and dimensionality effects. We consider a fully polarized quasi-one dimensional dipolar quantum gas of bosonic dysprosium atoms in a parabolic trap at zero temperature. We model the dipolar gas with an effective quasi-one dimensional Hamiltonian in the single-mode approximation, and derive the equation of state using a variational approximation based on the Lieb-Liniger gas Bethe Ansatz wavefunction or perturbation theory. We calculate the breathing mode frequencies while varying polarization angles by a sum-rule approach, and find them in good agreement with re…

Fracture of Honeycombs Produced by Additive Manufacturing
2022
Publisher Copyright: © 2021 World Scientific Publishing Europe Ltd. Lattice materials, such as honeycombs, are remarkable in their ability to combine high stiffness, strength and toughness at low density. In addition, the recent and pervasive development of additive manufacturing technologies makes it easier to produce these cellular materials and opens new possibilities to improve their properties by implementing small modifications to their microstructure. Such developments open new opportunities towards the design of new classes of architectured materials. For example, recent computational studies have shown that honeycombs with lattice density gradients have a fracture energy under tens…
