Electrochemical Fabrication and Physicochemical Characterization of Metal/High-k Insulating Oxide/Polymer/Electrolyte Junctions

2014

Photoelectrochemical polymerization of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene), PEDOT, was successfully realized on anodic film grown to 50 V on magnetron sputtered Ti-6 atom % Si alloys. Scanning electron microscopy allowed us to evidence formation of compact and uniform polymer layers on the oxide surface. Photoelectrochemical and impedance measurements showed that photopolymerization allows one to grow PEDOT in its conducting state, while a strong cathodic polarization is necessary to bring the polymer in its p-type semiconducting state. Information on the optical and electrical properties of metal/oxide/polymer/electrolyte junctions proves that PEDOT has promising performance as an electrolyte…

Spinterface: Crafting spintronics at the molecular scale

2014

A number of studies have suggested that molecular materials could offer similar performance as, or even potentially supersede, those of inorganic materials in spintronics devices. Radically new spintronics functionalities, unavailable with conventional inorganic materials, could stem from the interface between ferromagnetic (FM) and molecular materials, giving rise to the so-called “spinterface” field. In this article, we review the fundamental concepts, recent experiments, and perspectives in this fast rising field, where the functionality is brought from the bulk to the ultimate downscaled device: the interface. The article shows how spin-dependent hybridization at the FM metal/molecule i…

Optical Diagnostics with Ultrafast and Strong Field Raman Techniques

2014

In this chapter, we will discuss some coherent techniques, namely Raman Induced Polarization Spectroscopy (RIPS) and femtosecond Coherent Raman Anti-Stokes Spectroscopy (fs-CARS). We will demonstrate their ability to be used as non-invasive optical diagnostic tools for temperature, density, or concentration measurements, as well as a means of testing collision induced energy transfer models (in a low field regime), and studying the so-called inhomogeneous lineshape effects that are particularly enhanced in the case of hydrogen. We will also show how molecular alignment achieved in a strong field regime can provide additional information about collisional relaxation processes. In all cases, …

<title>Effects of light polarization and crystal orientation on the holographic recording efficiency in doped LiNbO<formula><inf>&l…

2008

The holographic recording efficiency in doped LiNbO3 crystals has been studied both experimentally and theoretically depending on the type of dope, on the recording geometry and on the polarizations of the recording and readout light.. The studied crystals can be arranged in the following order by their efficiency: LiNbO3:Cu, LiNbO3:Fe (yet having a smaller thickness and donor concentration than LiNbO3:Cu), LiNbO3:Fe+Cu, LiNbO3:Fe+Ti, LiNbO3:Ti. It was found that the recording geometry with the holographic grating vector along the optical axis is much more efficient than in the perpendicular configuration. This fact is in accordance with the photorefraction theory based on photogalvanic and …

Production of zero energy radioactive beams through extraction across superfluid helium surface

2003

A radioactive Ra-223 source was immersed in superfluid helium at 1.2-1.7 K. Electric fields transported recoiled Rn-219 ions in the form of snowballs to the surface and further extracted them across the surface. The ions were focussed onto an aluminium foil and alpha particle spectra were taken with a surface barrier spectrometer. This enabled us to determine the efficiency for each process unambiguously. The pulsed second sound wave proved effective in enhancing the extraction of positive ions from the surface. Thus we offer a novel method for study of impurities in superfluid helium and propose this method for production of zero energy nuclear beams for use at radioactive ion beam facilit…

Electronic structure of MgO-supported Au clusters: quantum dots probed by scanning tunneling microscopy.

2007

We investigate via density functional theory (DFT) the appearance of small MgO-supported gold clusters with 8 to 20 atoms in a scanning tunneling microscope (STM) experiment. Comparison of simulations of ultrathin films on a metal support with a bulk MgO leads to similar results for the cluster properties relevant for STM. Simulated STM pictures show the delocalized states of the cluster rather than the atomic structure. This finding is due to the presence of s- derived delocalized states of the cluster near the Fermi energy. The properties of theses states can be understood from a jellium model for monovalent gold.

Assessment of age-related skin changes using hyperspectral polarization imaging

2019

Abstract We report a development of hyperspectral polarization imaging approach for assessment of age-related skin changes. The degree of residual polarization is used as a quantitative marker of the age-related pathological malformations. The developed approach in frame of express analysis of the degree of residual polarization in each pixel of the image are shown.
