Spatial variability of dry spells duration statistical distributions
2014
Dry spells duration and its extent in space, is a key factor in water resources problems. In order to modelling the empirical distribution of dry spells (DS) frequencies observed in Sicily (i.e. in a typical Mediterranean climate), Agnese et al. (2014) successfully applied the two-parameter polylogarithm-series distribution. Because of the strong seasonality characterising Sicily’s rainfall regime, statistical analysis was separately applied to two data sets, referred to as “dry” and “wet” seasons, respectively. In this work, a similar analysis was carried out for a set of 26 DS time-series recorded in a large area (about 30000 km2), including Piedmont and the Aosta Valley.

Conservation status of the endemic vascular flora of Sicily
2022
The results of a comparative study of the quantitative data of the IUCN risk categories attributed to the endemic taxa of the Sicilian vascular flora are reported. 430 Sicilian strictly endemic taxa has been evaluated by comparing the data of the risk categories attributed by published sources. 400 taxa have received at least one assessment of their conservation status, 30 taxa have not yet been considered. 278 received an assessment of their conservation status in accordance with the IUCN criteria, while the remaining 152 have not yet been evaluated according to these criteria.
2008
In the present paper, we will present an approximate outlook of a few of the more relevant issues that determine, at the same time that reflect, the Spanish educative policies deployed from 1980 up to now. This scan of the last 25 years will allow us to see (even in a superficial and inevitably partial fashion) the tension and dialectic between tradition (noted for the persistence of outdated forms of conceiving and delivering education) and modernity (bearer of innovative trends, although not exempt from ambivalence and contradictions in its own development). We will pay close attention to those axes that can work as a starting point for our reflection, namely: educative policies, organiza…
2009
Long effective evapotranspiration (E) series was derived from the longest temperature series available in Sicily. The regional trend analysis performed has shown a slight upward trend of E.
The impact of in-canopy wind profile formulations on heat flux estimation using the remote sensing-based two-source model for an open orchard canopy …
2010
Abstract. For open orchard and vineyard canopies containing significant fractions of exposed soil (>50%), typical of Mediterranean agricultural regions, the energy balance of the vegetation elements is strongly influenced by heat exchange with the bare soil/substrate. For these agricultural systems a "two-source" approach, where radiation and turbulent exchange between the soil and canopy elements are explicitly modelled, appears to be the only suitable methodology for reliably assessing energy fluxes. In strongly clumped canopies, the effective wind speed profile inside and below the canopy layer can highly influence the partitioning of energy fluxes between the soil and vegetation comp…
IMPIEGO DEL CONTENUTO IDRICO DEL SUOLO E DEL DEFLUSSO SUPERFICIALE PER LA STIMA DELLA PERDITA DI SUOLO PARCELLARE A SCALA DI EVENTO
2016
