Search for pair production of first or second generation leptoquarks in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV using the ATLAS detector at the LHC

This paper describes searches for the pair production of first or second generation scalar leptoquarks using 35 pb−1 of proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector at √s=7 TeV. Leptoquarks are searched in events with two oppositely-charged muons or electrons and at least two jets, and in events with one muon or electron, missing transverse momentum and at least two jets. After event selection, the observed yields are consistent with the predicted backgrounds. Leptoquark production is excluded at the 95% CL for masses MLQ<376 (319) GeV and MLQ<422 (362) GeV for first and second generation scalar leptoquarks, respectively, when assuming the branching fraction of a leptoquark…

W artykule zaprezentowano sposób formułowania libertariańskiej koncepcji sprawiedliwości, opierając się na zmianie postrzegania podstawowych wartości: wolności i równości. Zarządzanie wartościami, poprzez zmianę ich pierwotnego znaczenia było jednym z kluczowych elementów w transformacji ustrojowej w obszarze polityki, społeczeństwa i gospodarki po II wojnie światowej. Zwrócono uwagę na różnice teoretyczne pierwotnych koncepcji oraz ich praktycznych emanacji w Stanach Zjednoczonych i przede wszystkim w Wielkiej Brytanii oraz w Europie Środkowo-Wschodniej.

International audience; We report the global analysis of methane (12CH4) lines from high resolution rovibrational spectra including accurate line positions and intensities in the region 0–4800 cm−1. This covers four polyads: The Ground State Monad (rotational levels), the Dyad (940–1850 cm−1, 2 vibrational levels, 2 sublevels), the Pentad (2150–3350 cm−1, 5 vibrational levels, 9 sublevels) and the Octad (3550–4800 cm−1, 8 vibrational levels, 24 sublevels) and some of the associated hot bands (Pentad−Dyad and Octad−Dyad). Preliminary analysis of CH3D from 3250 to 3700 cm(-1)

International audience; The infrared spectrum of CH3D from 3250 to 3700 cm(-1) was studied for the first time to assign transitions involving the nu(2) + nu(3), nu(2) + nu(5), nu(2) + nu(6), nu(3) + 2(nu 6) and 3 nu(6) vibrational states. Line positions and intensities were measured at 0.011 cm(-1) resolution using Fourier transform spectra recorded at Kitt Peak with isotopically enriched samples. Some 2852 line positions (involving over 900 upper state levels) and 874 line intensities were reproduced with RMS values of 0.0009 cm(-1) and 4.6%, respectively. The strongest bands were found to be nu(2) + nu(3) at 3499.7 cm(-1) and nu(2) + nu(6) at 3342.5 cm(-1) with integrated strengths, respe…
The dissipative linear Boltzmann equation for hard spheres

The authors prove existence and uniqueness of a Maxwellian, normalized equilibrium state for a dissipative linear Boltzmann equation with hard-sphere collision kernel modeling a granular gas and, for initial data with finite temperature and entropy, strong L 1 convergence (obtained through compactness arguments) toward the equilibrium of the solutions in the space-homogeneous case. The form of the equilibrium state, which is universal for the family of collision operators including hard, soft and Maxwellian interactions, is guessed through a grazing collision asymptotics and then proved to be the equilibrium state through Fourier analysis. Locked-in Syndrome and 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography: Observations from a Case of Basilar Artery Thrombosis

We report the case of a 59-year-old male patient suffering from locked-in syndrome (LIS) following basilar artery thrombosis despite an attempt of thrombolysis. Neurological examination showed quadriplegia and aphonia and a state of coma requiring mechanical ventilation was diagnosed. The use of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG)-positron emission tomography (PET) allowed to detect a normal 18F-FDG uptake in the main cerebral cortical areas and a significant reduction of 18F-FDG uptake in both cerebellar hemispheres, compatible with a functional deafferentation, helping confirming the clinical suspicion of LIS. Abstract Synthesis of two dicyclopentaannelated hexa‐peri‐hexabenzocoronene (PHBC) regioisomers was carried out, using nonplanar oligoaryl precursors with fluorenyl groups: mPHBC 8 with two pentagons in the “meta”‐configuration was obtained as a stable molecule, while its structural isomer with the “para”‐configuration, pPHBC 16, could be generated and characterized only in situ due to its high chemical reactivity. Both PHBCs exhibit low energy gaps, as reflected by UV‐vis‐NIR absorption and electrochemical measurements. Multiparticle configurations of excited states in 155Lu

Excited states in the neutron-deficient N=84 nuclide 155Lu have been populated by using the 102Pd(58Ni,αp) reaction. The 155Lu nuclei were separated by using the gas-filled recoil ion transport unit (RITU) separator and implanted into the Si detectors of the gamma recoil electron alpha tagging (GREAT) spectrometer. Prompt γ-ray emissions measured at the target position using the JUROGAM Ge detector array were assigned to 155Lu through correlations with α decays measured in GREAT. Structures feeding the (11/2−) and (25/2−)α-decaying states have been revised and extended.
