Multi-domain spectral approach with Sommerfeld condition for the Maxwell equations

2021

We present a multidomain spectral approach with an exterior compactified domain for the Maxwell equations for monochromatic fields. The Sommerfeld radiation condition is imposed exactly at infinity being a finite point on the numerical grid. As an example, axisymmetric situations in spherical and prolate spheroidal coordinates are discussed.

The ⊥-Illusion Is Not a T-Illusion

2020

Variants of the capital Latin letter T were prepared with the straight strokes replaced by J-, C-, or S-curves, mimicking handwritten Ts. These were used to test the hypothesis that the overestimation of the length of the T&rsquo

Search for top and bottom squarks from gluino pair production in final states with missing transverse energy and at least three b-jets with the ATLAS…

2012

This letter reports the results of a search for top and bottom squarks from gluino pair production in 4.7 fb[superscript −1] of pp collisions at s√=7 TeV using the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The search is performed in events with large missing transverse momentum and at least three jets identified as originating from a b-quark. Exclusion limits are presented for a variety of gluino-mediated models with gluino masses up to 1 TeV excluded.

Search for anomalous production of prompt like-sign muon pairs and constraints on physics beyond the Standard Model with the ATLAS detector

2012

An inclusive search for anomalous production of two prompt, isolated muons with the same electric charge is presented. The search is performed in a data sample corresponding to 1.6  fb−1 of integrated luminosity collected in 2011 at √s=7  TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Muon pairs are selected by requiring two isolated muons of the same electric charge with pT>20  GeV and |η|<2.5. Minimal requirements are placed on the rest of the event activity. The distribution of the invariant mass of the muon pair m(μμ) is found to agree well with the background expectation. Upper limits on the cross section for anomalous production of two muons with the same electric charge are placed as a func…

Cost-Effective Treatment of Scalar Relativistic Effects for Multireference Systems: A CASSCF Implementation Based on the Spin-free Dirac-Coulomb Hami…

2016

We present an implementation of the complete active space-self-consistent field (CASSCF) method specifically designed to be used in four-component scalar relativistic calculations based on the spin-free Dirac-Coulomb (SFDC) Hamiltonian. Our implementation takes full advantage of the properties of the SFDC Hamiltonian that allow us to use real algebra and to exploit point-group and spin symmetry to their full extent while including in a rigorous way scalar relativistic effects in the treatment. The SFDC-CASSCF treatment is more expensive than its non-relativistic counterpart only in the orbital optimization step, while exhibiting the same computational cost for the rate-determining full conf…

Unitary Approach to Vibrational Spectra of Tetrahedral Molecules: Generalized Infrared Intensity Model.

1997

International audience; In this paper we further extend a previous formalism, the construction of a dipole function adapted to tetrahedral molecules. The extension is based on an algebraic construction of symmetrized tensor operators through unitary algebra and point group symmetry. We prove that this generalization allows us to find the particular formalism that has been established and satisfactorily tested in a previous paper (C. Leroy et al., J. Mol. Spectrosc. 175, 289–295 (1996)).

Rovibrational Interactions in the Local-Mode Limit: The (n000) Stretching Overtone Bands of Spherical Tops

1995

Abstract We present a tensorial formalism adapted to the study of the ( n 000) rovibrational stretching states of spherical tops in the local mode limit. A local symmetrized rovibrational basis is built to take explicitly into account the fact that, in these states, the local symmetry is C 3ν rather than T d . Likewise, we introduce local rovibrational operators to build an effective Hamiltonian for these states. We then test our model by fitting the energy levels of 28 SiH 4 for 3 ≤ n ≤ 5.

Tests ofCPTsymmetry inB0−B¯0mixing and inB0→cc¯K0decays

2016

Using the eight time dependences for the decays Upsilon(4S)-> B0 B0bar -> fj fk with the dacay into a flavor-specific state fj = ell+- X before or after the decay into a CP eigenstate fk = c cbar KS,KL, as measured by the BABAR experiment, we determine the three CPT-sensitive parameters Re(z) and Im(z) in B0-B0bar mixing and |Abar/A| in B0 -> c cbar K0 decays. We find Im(z) = 0.010 +- 0.030 +- 0.013, Re(z) = -0.065 +- 0.028 +- 0.014, and |Abar/A| = 0.999 +- 0.023 +- 0.017, in agreement with CPT symmetry.

Abstract We show that a Wilson-type discretization of the Gross–Neveu model, a fermionic N -flavor quantum field theory displaying asymptotic freedom and chiral symmetry breaking, can serve as a playground to explore correlated symmetry-protected phases of matter using techniques borrowed from high-energy physics. A large- N study, both in the Hamiltonian and Euclidean formalisms, yields a phase diagram with trivial, topological, and symmetry-broken phases separated by critical lines that meet at a tri-critical point. We benchmark these predictions using tools from condensed matter and quantum information science, which show that the large- N method captures the essence of the phase diagram…

Dynamical symmetry breaking and fermion mass hierarchy in the scale-invariant 3-3-1 model

2020

We propose an extension of the Standard Model (SM) based on the $SU(3)_C\otimes SU(3)_L\otimes U(1)_X$ (3-3-1) gauge symmetry and scale invariance. Maintaining the main features of the so-called 3-3-1 models, such as the cancellation of gauge anomalies related to the number of chiral fermion generations, this model exhibits a very compact scalar sector. Only two scalar triplets and one singlet are necessary and sufficient to break the symmetries dynamically via the Coleman-Weinberg mechanism. With the introduction of an Abelian discrete symmetry and assuming a natural hierarchy among the vacuum expectation values of the neutral scalar fields, we show that all particles in the model can get …
