Democracy at the end of the History
2013
This article analyzes the loss of legitimacy that the economic crisis brought upon representative democracy and the consequences that can be drawn for the thesis of the end of History. The thesis we defend here is that the deterioration of the welfare state, as a result, under very specific conditions, of the capitalism in certain parts of the world, runs parallel with the delegative degradation of democracy.
The iron K-shell features of MXB 1728-34 from a simultaneous Chandra-RXTE observation
2005
We report on a simultaneous Chandra and RossiXTE observation of the low-mass X-ray binary atoll bursting source MXB 1728-34 performed on 2002 March 3-5. We fit the 1.2-35 keV continuum spectrum with a blackbody plus a Comptonized component. Large residuals at 6-10 keV can be fitted by a broad (FWHM ~ 2 keV) Gaussian emission line or, alternatively, by two absorption edges associated with lowly ionized iron and Fe XXV/XXVI at ~7.1 keV and ~9 keV, respectively. In this interpretation, we find no evidence of broad, or narrow, emission lines between 6 and 7 keV. We test our alternative modelling of the iron K shell region by reanalysing a previous BeppoSAX observation of MXB 1728-34, finding a …
Study of the Temporal Behavior of 4U 1728−34 as a Function of Its Position in the Color‐Color Diagram
2001
We study the timing properties of the bursting atoll source 4U 1728-34 as a function of its position in the X-ray color-color diagram. In the island part of the color-color diagram (corresponding to the hardest energy spectra), the power spectrum of 4U 1728-34 shows several features such as a band-limited noise component present up to a few tens of Hz, a low-frequency quasi-periodic oscillation (LFQPO) at frequencies between 20 and 40 Hz, a peaked noise component around 100 Hz, and one or two QPOs at kHz frequencies. In addition to these, in the lower banana (corresponding to softer energy spectra) we also find a very low frequency noise (VLFN) component below ∼1 Hz. In the upper banana (co…
Observation of the Decay X(3872)→π0χc1(1P)
2019
Using a total of 9.0 fb(-1) of e(+)e(-) collision data with center-of-mass energies between 4.15 and 4.30 GeV collected by the BESIII detector, we search for the processes e(+)e(-) gamma X(3872) with X(3872) -> pi(0)chi(cJ) for J = 0, 1, 2. We report the first observation of X(3872) -> pi(0)chi(c1), a new decay mode of the X(3872), with a statistical significance of more than 5 sigma for all systematic fit variations. Normalizing to the previously established process e(+)e(-) -> gamma X(3872) with X(3872) -> pi(+) pi(-) J/psi, we find B(X(3872) -> pi(0)chi(c1))/B(X(3872) -> pi+ pi(-) J/psi) = 0.88(-0.27)(+0.33) +/- 0.10, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. We …
Charmonium description from a generalized screened potential model
2015
A generalized screened potential model (GSPM), recently developed to study the bottomonium spectrum, is applied to the calculation of charmonium masses and electromagnetic widths. The presence in the GSPM of more quark-antiquark bound states than in conventional non screened potential models, allows for the assignment of GSPM states to cataloged non conventional $J^{++}$ charmonium resonances as well as for the prediction of new (non cataloged) $J^{++}$ states. The results obtained seem to indicate that a reasonable overall description of $J^{++}$ charmonium resonances is feasible.
Search forB+→X(3872)K+,X(3872)→J/ψγ
2006
In a study of B+ --> J/psi gamma K+ decays, we find evidence for the radiative decay X(3872) --> J/psi gamma with a statistical significance of 3.4 sigma. We measure the product of branching fractions BF(B+ --> X(3872) K+).BF(X(3872) --> J/psi gamma) = (3.3 +/- 1.0 +/- 0.3) x 10^-6, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. We also measure the branching fraction BF(B+ --> chi_c1 K+) = (4.9 +/- 0.2 +/- 0.4) x 10^-4. These results are obtained from (287+/-3) million BBar decays collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II B Factory at SLAC.
Evidence for the decay X(3872)→ψ(2S)γ
2014
Evidence for the decay mode X(3872) -> psi(2S)gamma in B+ -> X(3872)K+ decays is found with a significance of 4.4 standard deviations. The analysis is based on a data sample of proton proton collisions, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1), collected with the LHCb detector, at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. The ratio of the branching fraction of the X(3872) -> psi(2S)gamma decay to that of the X(3872) -> J/psi gamma decay is measured to be B(X(3872) -> psi(2S)gamma)/B(X(3872) -> J/psi gamma) = 2.46 +/- 0.64 +/- 0.29, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The measured value does not support a pure D (D) over bar* molecular interpre…
Search for muoproduction of X(3872) at COMPASS and indication of a new state X˜(3872)
2018
Abstract We have searched for exclusive production of exotic charmonia in the reaction μ + N → μ + ( J / ψ π + π − ) π ± N ′ using COMPASS data collected with incoming muons of 160 GeV/c and 200 GeV/c momentum. In the J / ψ π + π − mass distribution we observe a signal with a statistical significance of 4.1 σ. Its mass and width are consistent with those of the X ( 3872 ) . The shape of the π + π − mass distribution from the observed decay into J / ψ π + π − shows disagreement with previous observations for X ( 3872 ) . The observed signal may be interpreted as a possible evidence of a new charmonium state. It could be associated with a neutral partner of X ( 3872 ) with C = − 1 predicted b…
ON THE NATURE OF THE X(3872)
2010
We present recent studies of charmonium multiquark states. We use different interacting models and numerical methods to study deeply bound four-quark states and meson-meson molecules. No deeply bound four-quark states are found in our analysis. A nice description of the X(3872) is obtained as a $D\bar{D}^*-J/\Psi\omega$ coupled channel state.
Search for a charged partner of theX(3872)in theBmeson decayB→X−K,X−→J/ψπ−π0
2005
We search for a charged partner of the X(3872) in the decay B --> X- K, X- --> J/psi pi- pi0, using 234 million BBbar events collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II e+e- asymmetric-energy storage ring. The resulting product branching fraction upper limits are BR(B0 --> X- K+, X- --> J/psi pi- pi0) X- K0bar,X- --> J/psi pi- pi0) < 22 x 10(-6) at the 90% confidence level.
