A stochastic shape and orientation model for fibres with an application to carbon nanotubes

Methods are introduced for analysing the shape and orientation of planar fibres from greyscale images of fibrous systems. The sequence of image processing techniques needed for segmentation of fibres is described. The identified fibres were interpreted as deformed line segments for which two shape and two orientation parameters are estimated by the maximum likelihood method. The methods introduced are shown to perform quite well for simulated systems of deformed line segments with known properties. They were applied to TEM images of carbon nanotubes embedded in polycarbonate.

Transformation Algorithm of Dielectric Response in Time-Frequency Domain

On the population model with a sine function

In the interval [0,1] function sr(x) = r sin πx behaves similar to logistic function h μ (x) = μx(1‐ x). We prove that for every r > there exists subset ? ⊂ [0,1] such that sr : ? → ? is a chaotic function. Since the logistic function is chaotic in another subset of [0,1] but both functions have similar graphs in [0,1] we conclude that it can lead to errors in practice. DEGENERATE MATRIX METHOD FOR SOLVING NONLINEAR SYSTEMS OF DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS

Degenerate matrix method for numerical solving nonlinear systems of ordinary differential equations is considered. The method is based on an application of special degenerate matrix and usual iteration procedure. Nonlocal Third Order Boundary Value Problems with Solutions that Change Sign

We investigate the existence and the number of solutions for a third order boundary value problem with nonlocal boundary conditions in connection with the oscillatory behavior of solutions. The combination of the shooting method and scaling method is used in the proofs of our main results. Examples are included to illustrate the results.

On Mathematical Modelling of Metals Distribution in Peat Layers

In this paper we consider averaging and finite difference methods for solving the 3-D boundary-value problem in multilayered domain. We consider the metals Fe and Ca concentration in the layered peat blocks. Using experimental data the mathematical model for calculation of concentration of metals in different points in peat layers is developed. On the Computation of the Efficient Frontier of the Portfolio Selection Problem

An easy-to-use procedure is presented for improving theε-constraint method for computing the efficient frontier of the portfolio selection problem endowed with additional cardinality and semicontinuous variable constraints. The proposed method provides not only a numerical plotting of the frontier but also an analytical description of it, including the explicit equations of the arcs of parabola it comprises and the change points between them. Complementary Judgment Matrix Method with Imprecise Information for Multicriteria Decision-Making

The complementary judgment matrix (CJM) method is an MCDA (multicriteria decision aiding) method based on pairwise comparisons. As in AHP, the decision-maker (DM) can specify his/her preferences using pairwise comparisons, both between different criteria and between different alternatives with respect to each criterion. The DM specifies his/her preferences by allocating two nonnegative comparison values so that their sum is 1. We measure and pinpoint possible inconsistency by inconsistency errors.
