Ņemot vērā, ka cilvēku un dzīvnieku mijiedarbība un līdzās pastāvēšana pakāpeniski ir kļuvusi par problēmu, un dzīvnieku izmantošana cilvēku labā ir pieņēmusi milzīgus apmērus, autoresprāt, ir būtiski sakārtot jau pastāvošo likumdošanu un ieviest stingrāku kontroli, lai nodrošinātu pilnvērtīgu dzīvnieku interešu aizsardzību. High-Precision Measurements of the Bound Electron’s Magnetic Moment

Highly charged ions represent environments that allow to study precisely one or more bound electrons subjected to unsurpassed electromagnetic fields. Under such conditions, the magnetic moment (g-factor) of a bound electron changes significantly, to a large extent due to contributions from quantum electrodynamics. We present three Penning-trap experiments, which allow to measure magnetic moments with ppb precision and better, serving as stringent tests of corresponding calculations, and also yielding access to fundamental quantities like the fine structure constant α and the atomic mass of the electron. Hairy Garlic (Allium subhirsutum) from Sicily (Italy): LC-DAD-MSn Analysis of Secondary Metabolites and In Vitro Biological Properties

Allium subhirsutum, known as hairy garlic, is a bulbous plant widespread in the Mediterranean area and locally used as a food and spice. In the present study, the chemical profile of the ethanolic extracts from bulbs (BE) and aerial parts (APE) were analyzed by HPLC-ESI-MSn, and antioxidant properties were evaluated by DPPH, ABTS and TEAC assays. The traditional use in the diet, and the well documented biological activity of Allium species suggest a potential as a new nutraceutical. Chemical Composition and Free Radical Scavenging Activity of the Essential Oil of Achillea ligustica Growing Wild in Lipari (Aeolian Islands, Sicily)

In the present study the chemical composition of the essential oils from aerial parts and flowers of Achillea ligustica All., collected in Lipari (Aeolian Islands) was evaluated by GC and GC-MS. ( Z)-Chrysanthenyl acetate was the most abundant component of both oils (29.6% in A1 and 27.8% in F1), followed by viridiflorol (16.8% in A1 and 21.6% in F1), bornyl acetate (8.7% in A1 and 11.6% in F1) and 1,8-cineole (7.4% in A1 and 9.3% in F1). A comparison was made of the composition of the different populations studied so far. Futhermore, the free radical scavenging activity of the oil was determined by DPPH and ABTS methods.

Precision Measurement of the Mass and Lifetime of the Xi(-)(b) Baryon

We report on measurements of the mass and lifetime of the Ξ[- over b] baryon using about 1800 Ξ[- over b] decays reconstructed in a proton-proton collision data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0  fb[superscript -1] collected by the LHCb experiment. The decays are reconstructed in the Ξ[- over b] → Ξ[0 over c]π[superscript -], Ξ[0 over c] → pK[superscript -]K[superscript -]π[superscript +] channel and the mass and lifetime are measured using the Λ[0 over b] → Λ[+ over c]π[superscript -] mode as a reference. Nuclear Charge Radii of the Nickel Isotopes $^{58-68,70}$Ni

Collinear laser spectroscopy is performed on the nickel isotopes Ni58-68,70, using a time-resolved photon counting system. From the measured isotope shifts, nuclear charge radii Rc are extracted and compared to theoretical results. Three ab initio approaches all employ, among others, the chiral interaction NNLOsat, which allows an assessment of their accuracy. We find agreement with experiment in differential radii δ⟨rc2⟩ for all employed ab initio methods and interactions, while the absolute radii are consistent with data only for NNLOsat. Spins and magnetic moments of 58;60;62;64Mn ground states and isomers

The odd-odd 54;56;58;60;62;64Mn isotopes (Z = 25) were studied using bunched-beam collinear laser spectroscopy at ISOLDE, CERN. From the measured hyperfine spectra the spins and magnetic moments of Mn isotopes up to N = 39 were extracted. The previous tentative ground state spin assignments of 58;60;62;64Mn are now firmly determined to be I = 1 along with an I = 4 assignment for the isomeric states in 58;60;62Mn. The I = 1 magnetic moments show a decreasing trend with increasing neutron number while the I = 4 moments remain quite constant between N = 33 and N = 37.
