Linking the Kinetic Energy Fraction and Equivalent Length Method for Trickle Irrigation Design under Local Losses
2020
New methods using analytical relationships to design drip irrigation laterals and subunits have been introduced in recent years based on the assumption that minor losses can be neglected. This assumption could be relaxed by applying the equivalent method, which makes it possible to account for minor losses, such as those caused by emitter connections, through formulas based on the rationale that an equivalent length of the drip lateral produces the same losses. However, equivalent length formulas are empirical; thus, they do not necessarily cover the entire range of conditions in the real-world contexts in which the formulas will be applied, and their extrapolation could lead to erroneous r…
Experimental study and numerical simulation of inclined rectangular weirs
2018
Inclined rectangular weirs, also named pivot weirs, are used both to adjust the upstream water level and to increase the flow capacity compared with that of normal rectangular weirs. However, the experimental studies available in the literature present contradictory conclusions for the inclined weir discharge capacity. In this paper, new experimental runs and numerical simulations were performed to investigate the effect of the rectangular weir inclination angle on the stage-discharge formula. The experiments were carried out using inclination angles ranging from 30° to 90°. Buckingham's theorem of dimensional analysis was used to obtain an equation for the flow magnification ratio (the dis…

Dwuizbowy parlament i reformy instytucjonalne w Republice Włoskiej
2019
Parliaments are dual institutions by nature, as they connect society with the legal structure of the state power. An analysis of the structural properties of contemporary legislative bodies indicates the particular importance of the factor of internal organization, which makes it possible to distinguish a symmetrical bicameralism. The case of Italy is attractive for researchers of political systems for many reasons. One of them is a fact, that both chambers hold the identical legal and political positions, have the same five years’ terms of office and identical scopes of authority. The proportional voting system guaranteed (with two exceptions) that the legislative branch was a mirror image…
Znaczenie unijnego systemu wjazdu/wyjazdu dla wzmocnienia bezpieczeństwa i skutecznego zarządzania granicami zewnętrznymi

The importance of the EU Entry/Exit System to strengthen the security and effective management of the EU’s external borders The European Union strives for modern and effective border management through the use of the new technologies. This study concerns the adopted on 30 November 2017 EU Entry/Exit System. This system, which is expected to become fully operational by 2020, should contribute to the acceleration of border controls at the external borders of the Schengen area and increase the freedom of movement while enhancing the Union’s internal security. In addition, it is currently replacing the existing system of manual stamping of passports and will register electronic data on entries/…
Cytoplasmic incompatibility between Old and New World populations of a tramp ant
2020
Reproductive manipulation by endosymbiotic Wolbachia can cause unequal inheritance, allowing the manipulator to spread and potentially impacting evolutionary dynamics in infected hosts. Tramp and invasive species are excellent models to study the dynamics of host-Wolbachia associations because introduced populations often diverge in their microbiomes after colonizing new habitats, resulting in infection polymorphisms between native and introduced populations. Ants are the most abundant group of insects on earth, and numerous ant species are classified as highly invasive. However, little is known about the role of Wolbachia in these ecologically dominant insects. Here, we provide the first d…
Der Zellkern - eine Stadt in der Zelle
2016
