Tanzawaic acids I-L: Four new polyketides from Penicillium sp. IBWF104-06.
2014
Four new polyketides have been identified in culture filtrates of the fungal strain Penicillium sp. IBWF104-06 isolated from a soil sample. They are structurally based on the same trans-decalinpentanoic acid skeleton as tanzawaic acids A–H. One of the new compounds was found to inhibit the conidial germination in the rice blast fungus Magnaporthe oryzae at concentrations of 25 μg/mL.
Globularia nudicaulis, a new host of Cucumber mosaic virus
2006
) is a perennial, foundnaturally on European mountains at altitudes between 900 and 2000 m.In June 2004, G. nudicaulis plants, with a yellow mosaic and/or variega-tion on malformed leaves, were noted among plant species cultivated in theBotanical Garden at Bologna University, Italy. No elongated virus-likeparticles were observed in affected-leaf extracts by transmission electronmicroscopy using a leaf dip method. By applying a protein A sandwichenzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (PAS-ELISA) technique ( Edwards Csystemic symptoms were observed in Nicotiana tabacum , N. benthamiana ,N. glutinosa, N. clevelandii and Capsicum annuum, and Cucumis sativusand C. melo. Reverse transcription-polymera…
Brenneria quercina and Serratia spp. isolated from Spanish oak trees Molecular characterization and development of PCR primers
2008
Brenneria quercina has been reported as one of the causal agents of oak decline in Spain. To investigate the bacterial variability of this pathogen from different Spanish oak forests, a collection of 38 bacterial isolates from seven geographic locations and from different oak species was analysed by sequencing 16S rDNA and rep-PCR fingerprinting. All Spanish isolates of B. quercina were grouped by rep-PCR into a homogenous cluster that differed significantly from B. quercina reference strains from California. 16S rDNA analysis revealed that 34 out of 38 isolates were Brenneria. However, four isolates belonged to the genus Serratia, suggesting that this bacterium could cause cankers in oak t…
First report of Cucumber mosaic virus infecting Solanum jasminoides in Italy
2008
Solanum jasminoides Paxton (potato vine or jasmine nightshade) is a vegetatively propagated ornamental species within the Solanaceae family. Recently, symptomless plants of this species were reported as natural hosts of the quarantine pest, Potato spindle tuber viroid (PSTVd) in Italy (1). In January 2008, approximately 1,000 potted, 2-year-old plants of S. jasminoides growing in an ornamental nursery in Sicily showed virus-like mosaic and malformation of leaves. Symptoms were observed on approximately 60% of the plants. Leaf tissue, collected from 30 symptomatic and 10 symptomless plants, was analyzed by double-antibody sandwich-ELISA with polyclonal antisera specific to Cucumber mosaic v…
Algebraic models of the real affine plane
2017
We introduce a new invariant, the real (logarithmic)-Kodaira dimension, that allows to distinguish smooth real algebraic surfaces up to birational diffeomorphism. As an application, we construct infinite families of smooth rational real algebraic surfaces with trivial homology groups, whose real loci are diffeomorphic to $\mathbb{R}^2$, but which are pairwise not birationally diffeomorphic. There are thus infinitely many non-trivial models of the real affine plane, contrary to the compact case.
Ripostigli di bronzi nella Sicilia di età arcaica. Contesti di rinvenimento, funzioni e aspetti ponderali
2012
The contribution analyzes the structure, composition and contexts of the archaic age bronze hoards found in the colonial and anellenic sites of Sicily. The particular frequency of hoards in sacred areas is evident, where they are consecrated to the chthonic divinities due to their intrinsic value, linked to their metallic nature and their notion of weight.
ZnO/CdTe/CuSCN, a promising heterostructure to act as inorganic eta-solar cell
2005
Abstract The ZnO/CdTe/CuSCN heterostructure was analyzed as a candidate to act as an inorganic eta -solar cell. A ZnO film consisting of single crystal nanocolumns was electrodeposited on a transparent conducting substrate which acts as n-type material. As absorber material we used CdTe, which was deposited on the ZnO columnar film by Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition. In order to complete the eta -solar cell we deposited a CuSCN layer by chemical solution deposition. A conformal and uniform CdTe coverage of the ZnO columns was achieved, producing a very efficient light trapping effect. The effective absorption (∼87%) and effective reflectance (∼10%) of the complete heterostructure in…
Material quality characterization of CdZnTe substrates for HgCdTe epitaxy
2006
Cd1−xZnxTe (CZT) substrates were studied to investigate their bulk and surface properties. Imperfections in CZT substrates affect the quality of Hg1−xCdxTe (MCT) epilayers deposited on them and play a role in limiting the performance of infrared (IR) focal plane arrays. CZT wafers were studied to investigate their bulk and surface properties. Transmission and surface x-ray diffraction techniques, utilizing both a conventional closed-tube x-ray source as well as a synchrotron radiation source, and IR transmission micro-spectroscopy, were used for bulk and surface investigation. Synchrotron radiation offers the capability to combine good spatial resolution and shorter exposure times than conv…
Overview and experimental analysis of MC SPWM techniques for single-phase five level cascaded H-bridge FPGA controller-based
2016
This paper presents an overview and experimental analysis of the MC SPWM techniques for single-phase cascaded H-bridge inverter. The multilevel power converters are an alternative to traditional converters known as “three-level converters”. The voltage waveforms and the related frequency spectra, which have been obtained by simulation analysis in Matlab-Simulink environment, are here reported for all the proposed modulation techniques. The simulation results have been experimentally validated through means of a DC/AC, five-level, single-phase converter prototype with an appropriate test bench.
Gui-driven intelligent tutoring system with affective support to help learning the algebraic method
2017
Despite many research efforts focused on the development of algebraic reasoning and the resolution of story problems, several investigations have reported that relatively advanced students experience serious difficulties in symbolizing certain meaningful relations by using algebraic equations. In this paper, we describe and justify the Graphical User Interface of an Intelligent Tutoring System that allows learning and practising the procedural aspects involved in translating the information contained in a story problem into a symbolic representation. The application design has been driven by cognitive findings from several previous investigations. First, the process of translating a word pr…
