Influence of nanoscale order–disorder transitions on the magnetic properties of Heusler compounds for spintronics
2017
Modifications in nanoscale chemical order are used to tune the magnetic properties, namely T-C, of Co2FeSixAl1-x (0 < x < 1). High-angle annular dark field scanning transmission electron microscopy (HAADF-STEM) with Z-contrast reveals nanoscale regions of L2(1) order within a B2 matrix in the off-stoichiometry samples. Perhaps surprisingly, the latter, more chemically disordered structure, exhibits a higher T-C. Upon annealing, the off-stoichiometry samples become more homogeneous with the fraction of L2(1) order decreasing. The short-range order was also investigated using X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) measurements at the Co and Fe K edges. Since the local atomic environments of C…
Dynamics of the incorporation of Co into the wurtzite ZnO matrix and its magnetic properties
2015
Made available in DSpace on 2022-04-29T07:25:55Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2015-07-25 Financiadora de Estudos e Projetos Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq) Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) Abstract Bulk Co-doped ZnO (Zn1-xCoxO) samples were prepared and studied with particular emphasis on their compositions, structures, and magnetic properties. A detailed microstructural analysis was conducted to investigate the nature of Co incorporation into the wurtzite ZnO matrix. The Zn1-xCoxO ceramic samples were prepared using the standard solid-state reaction method with different Co molar concentrations of u…
Theoretical elastoplastic buckling of stringer stiffened cylindrical shells
1985
Abstract A linear analysis method is offered to predict the theoretical elastoplastic buckling of stringer stiffened cylindrical shells subjected to longitudinal loading. Welding residual stresses are taken into account in the calculation, but effects of geometrical imperfections and pre-buckling displacements are ignored. The examples analysed show a good correlation between the analytical results and those obtained experimentally with stocky models of moderate geometrical imperfections.
A new intermediate intercalate in superconducting sodium-doped hafnium nitride chloride
2005
Anew phase has been observed during the sodiumintercalation of hafnium nitride chloride as intermediate between the host β-HfNCl and the already reported Na 0.29 HfNCl with Tc of 24 K; the new intermediate shows interlayer spacings ranging from 9.48 to 9.67 A°, corresponds to a second stage intercalate of HfNCl and is superconducting with a critical temperature of 20 K. MgO surface microstructure and crystalline coherence of Co/Pt superlattices
1998
We report the growth of Co/Pt(111) superlattices sputtered onto MgO(111) substrates of different surface quality. Long-range structural coherence in the Pt-seed layers and the superlattices could only be obtained on specially re-polished substrates. In seed layers and superlattices grown on miscut re-polished substrates suppression of abc versus acb stacking was observed.
Hybrid supramolecular gels of Fmoc-F/halloysite nanotubes: Systems for sustained release of camptothecin
2017
Supramolecular gel hybrids obtained by self-assembly of Fmoc-L-phenylalanine (Fmoc-F) in the presence of functionalized halloysite nanotubes (f-HNT) were obtained in biocompatible solvents and employed as carriers for the delivery of camptothecin (CPT) molecules. The synthesis of the new f-HNT material as well as its characterization are described. The properties of the hybrid hydrogels and organogels were analyzed by several techniques. The presence of small amounts of f-HNT allows good dispersion of the tubes and the subsequent formation of homogeneous gels. The experimental results show that f-HNT functions only as an additive in the hybrid gels and does not demonstrate gelator behavior.…
The role of angiogenesis in implant dentistry part I: Review of titanium alloys, surface characteristics and treatments
2015
Background: Angiogenesis plays an important role in osseointegration process by contributing to inflammatory and regenerative phases of surrounding alveolar bone. The present review evaluated the effect of titanium alloys and their surface characteristics including: surface topography (macro, micro, and nano), surface wettability/ energy, surface hydrophilicity or hydrophobicity, surface charge, and surface treatments of dental implants on angiogenesis events, which occur during osseointegration period. Material and Methods: An electronic search was performed in PubMed, MEDLINE, and EMBASE databases via OVID using the keywords mentioned in the PubMed and MeSH headings regarding the role of …
Immobilization of BMP‐2, BMP‐7 and alendronic acid on titanium surfaces: Adhesion, proliferation and differentiation of bone marrow‐derived stem cells
2019
This study analyzed the influence of titanium (TiO2 ) surface modifications with two osteogenic proteins (BMP-2, BMP-7) and an anti-osteoclastic drug (alendronic acid [AA]) on sandblasted/acid-etched (SLA) and plain TiO2 (PT) on cell adhesion, proliferation and differentiation (alkaline phosphatase [AP] and osteocalcin [OC]) of bone-marrow derived stem cells (BMSCs) after 1, 3 and 7 days in-vitro. Initially, AA surfaces showed the highest cell number and surface coverage. At day 3 and 7, BMP and AA-modified surfaces exhibited a significantly enhanced cell growth. For proliferation, at days 3 and 7, an enhancement on BMP-2, BMP-7 and AA-surfaces was seen. At day 7, SLA also showed a higher p…
Functional biohybrid materials based on halloysite, sepiolite and cellulose nanofibers for health applications
2019
Biohybrid materials were prepared by co-assembling the three following components: nanotubular halloysite, microfibrous sepiolite, and cellulose nanofibers dispersed in water, in order to exploit the most salient features of each individual component and to render homogeneous, flexible, yet strong films. Indeed, the incorporation of halloysite improves the mechanical performance of the resulting hybrid nanopapers and the assembly of the three components modifies the surface features concerning wetting properties compared to pristine materials, so that the main characteristics of the resulting materials become tunable with regard to certain properties. Owing to their hierarchical porosity to…
Interactions between cells and titanium surfaces.
2002
The interaction between cells and implant materials is determined by the surface structure and/or surface composition of the material. In the past years, titanium and titanium alloys have proved their superiority over other implant materials in many clinical applications. This predominant behaviour is caused by a dense passive oxide layer which forms within milliseconds in oxidizing media. Titanium dioxide layers of 100 nm thickness were produced on the surface of cp-titanium grade 2, and on an experimental alloy of high vanadium content (Ti1.5Al25V) as a harmful control. The layers were produced by thermal and anodic oxidation and by coating by means of the sol-gel process. The resulting o…
