Ville Vallgrenin museo : museon suunnitteluun vaikuttaneet tekijät ja museolle annetut merkitykset 1920-luvulla
2011
Ville Vallgrenin museo, Porvoon museon erillinen osasto, avattiin toukokuussa 1925.
Full Sliding “Adhesive-Like” Contact of V-Belts
2002
Abstract Analysis of power transmission in a belt drive consisting of e. g. two pulleys might be treated as a boundary value problem. Tight side tension FT, slack side tension FS and the wrap angle α are the three natural boundary conditions. In the literature, theories are developed where seating and unseating as well as the power transmitting part of the contact are considered. The solutions presented so far don’t fulfil the boundary conditions properly, since a certain tension ratio FT/FS is associated with a certain contact angle and not an a priori specified one. It appears that a new type of full sliding solution must be introduced to handle the boundary condition problem. During part…
Effect of active application of self-etching ceramic primer on the long-term bond strength of different dental CAD/CAM materials
2021
Made available in DSpace on 2022-04-29T08:36:43Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2021-01-01 Background: The objective of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effect of the active application of self-etching ceramic primer (ME&P) on the bond strength of different dental CAD/CAM materials (Lithium Disilicate ceramic (LD), Leucite ceramic (LE), Zirconia reinforced lithium silicate ceramic (ZLS), and Hybrid ceramic (HC)) with thermocycling aging. Material and Methods: The samples were randomly divided into 16 groups (n = 20). Dual resin cement cylinders were made and light cured for 10 s (1.200 mW/cm2) for the shear bond strength test. 3-way ANOVA revealed that the factors w…
CheS-Mapper - Chemical Space Mapping and Visualization in 3D
2012
Abstract Analyzing chemical datasets is a challenging task for scientific researchers in the field of chemoinformatics. It is important, yet difficult to understand the relationship between the structure of chemical compounds, their physico-chemical properties, and biological or toxic effects. To that respect, visualization tools can help to better comprehend the underlying correlations. Our recently developed 3D molecular viewer CheS-Mapper (Chemical Space Mapper) divides large datasets into clusters of similar compounds and consequently arranges them in 3D space, such that their spatial proximity reflects their similarity. The user can indirectly determine similarity, by selecting which f…
University Teachers’ Professional Identity Work and Emotions in the Context of an Arts-Based Identity Coaching Program
2020
In changing work contexts, there is a critical need to adopt practices that support professional identity work in order to promote individuals’ resilience and well-being at work. This chapter reports on an investigation into professional identity work and emotions in the context of an arts-based coaching program aimed at prompting experienced university teachers to process their professional identities. Since different (un)pleasant emotions emerged during the program, the chapter notably discusses the advantages and pitfalls of using arts-based methods among adults. The findings also contribute to the theoretical understanding of the role of emotions in professional identity processes by re…
Negotiation mechanisms for capacity allocation in distributed enterprises
2003
Abstract The paper proposes an agent based approach for the capacity allocation in distributed enterprises, characterized by complex and articulated organizations and by geographically distributed production capacities contended by many product families. In such a scenario the process of allocating the production capacity to the single customer order is one the major bottlenecks of the production planning activity as far as many organizational decisional levels are involved and market turbulence implies a continuous retuning of the capacity allocation plan. A high grade of reactiveness is needed. Agent based approaches and negotiation models, by decentralizing the decisional control and sim…
How to combine tools and methods in practice— a field study
1990
In spring 1989 we surveyed the experiences of some Finnish companies in methodology modelling (metamodelling) and adaptation of tools and methodologies to each other (methodology adaptation). The companies represented software production, banking, wood and metal industry, and wholesale trade. The study was carried out as a field study where we interviewed method developers, systems analysts and their supervisors. The goal of the survey was to find out whether there was need for metamodelling or methodology adaptation in general and how this need had been satisfied. The study shows that a little experience had been gained in adapting data dictionaries to methodologies but no such attempts ha…
Aims vs. technology: Pedagogical view to the use of educational applications in safety critical contexts
2011
Interactive technology for education has formed into a relatively independent domain of research and development. Interactive technology is often seen as a context independent tool. However, we argue that education in different contexts may have so different and incommensurable aims that no single technology can be announced as good or bad per se in terms of learning. The development of educational application should not be based on the technology to be applied, but by careful analysis of learning aims. When formulated in an appropriate way, learning aims work as a relevant basis in all stages of the design process of an educational application. The formulation of aims is therefore critical…
Computer-Aided Diagnosis for Prostate Cancer using Multi-Parametric Magnetic Resonance Imaging
2016
Prostate cancer (CaP) is the second most diagnosed cancer in men all over the world.CaP growth is characterized by two main types of evolution: (i) the slow-growing tumours progress slowly and usually remain confined to the prostate gland; (ii) the fast-growing tumours metastasize from prostate gland to other organs, which might lead to incurable diseases. Therefore, early diagnosis and risk assessment play major roles in patient treatment and follow-up.In the last decades, new imaging techniques based on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) have been developed improving diagnosis. In practise, diagnosis can be affected by multiple factors such as observer variability and visibility and complexit…
