A naive approach to compose aerial images in a mosaic fashion
2002
There is growing interest in multiple sequence image analysis to represent those data in a new landscape, for instance reconstruction of old films, mosaicing of images. This paper focuses attention on the mosaic problem; it introduces a naive method to link together images where a common part of the scene is present among two images. An application has been developed to test the method on aerial sequences of images. Given the long distance of aircraft from the scene, the method assumes images without distortions and without problems of prospective. Moreover, the application does not need any additional parameters coming from human experience and for this reason it can be thought of as a ful…
Efficacy of an internet-based psychological intervention for problem gambling and gambling disorder: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial
2021
Gambling Disorder is a prevalent non-substance use disorder, which contrasts with the low number of people requesting treatment. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) could help to enhance the dissemination of evidence-based treatments and considerably reduce the costs. The current study seeks to assess the efficacy of an online psychological intervention for people suffering from gambling problems in Spain. The proposed study will be a two-arm, parallel-group, randomized controlled trial. A total of 134 participants (problem and pathological gamblers) will be randomly allocated to a waiting list control group (N = 67) or an intervention group (N = 67). The intervention program i…
SARS-CoV-2 and its impact on the cardiovascular and digestive systems – The interplay between new virus variants and human cells
2023
Since infection with the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 first emerged in Wuhan, China, in December 2019,the world has been battling the pandemic COVID-19. Patients of all ages and genders are now becoming infected with the new coronavirus variant (Omicron) worldwide, and its subvariants continue to pose a threat to health and life. This article provides a literature review of cardiovascular and gastrointestinal complications resulting from SARS-CoV-2 infection. COVID-19 primarily caused respiratory symptoms, but complications can affect many vital organs. SARS-CoV-2 binds to a human cell receptor (angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 – ACE2) that is predominantly expressed primarily in the heart a…
An improvement of ComiR algorithm for microRNA target prediction by exploiting coding region sequences of mRNAs
2020
AbstractMicroRNA are small non-coding RNAs that post-transcriptionally regulate the expression levels of messenger RNAs. MicroRNA regulation activity depends on the recognition of binding sites located on mRNA molecules. ComiR is a web tool realized to predict the targets of a set of microRNAs, starting from their expression profile. ComiR was trained with the information regarding binding sites in the 3’utr region, by using a reliable dataset containing the targets of endogenously expressed microRNA in D. melanogaster S2 cells. This dataset was obtained by comparing the results from two different experimental approaches, i.e., inhibition, and immunoprecipitation of the AGO1 protein--a comp…
Hypertrophy and ER Stress Induced by Palmitate Are Counteracted by Mango Peel and Seed Extracts in 3T3-L1 Adipocytes
2023
A diet rich in saturated fatty acids (FAs) has been correlated with metabolic dysfunction and ROS increase in the adipose tissue of obese subjects. Thus, reducing hypertrophy and oxidative stress in adipose tissue can represent a strategy to counteract obesity and obesity-related diseases. In this context, the present study showed how the peel and seed extracts of mango (Mangifera indica L.) reduced lipotoxicity induced by high doses of sodium palmitate (PA) in differentiated 3T3-L1 adipocytes. Mango peel (MPE) and mango seed (MSE) extracts significantly lowered PA-induced fat accumulation by reducing lipid droplet (LDs) and triacylglycerol (TAGs) content in adipocytes. We showed that MPE a…

Revisiting the Nonadiabatic Process in 1,2-Dioxetane.
2015
Determining the ground and excited-state decomposition mechanisms of 1,2-dioxetane is essential to understand the chemiluminescence and bioluminescence phenomena. Several experimental and theoretical studies has been performed in the past without reaching a converged description. The reason is in part associated with the complex nonadiabatic process taking place along the reaction. The present study is an extension of a previous work (De Vico, L.; Liu, Y.-J.; Krogh, J. W.; Lindh, R. J. Phys. Chem. A 2007, 111, 8013-8019) in which a two-step mechanism was established for the chemiluminescence involving asynchronous O-O' and C-C' bond dissociations. New high-level multistate multi configurati…
Abel transforms with low regularity with applications to X-ray tomography on spherically symmetric manifolds
2017
We study ray transforms on spherically symmetric manifolds with a piecewise $C^{1,1}$ metric. Assuming the Herglotz condition, the X-ray transform is injective on the space of $L^2$ functions on such manifolds. We also prove injectivity results for broken ray transforms (with and without periodicity) on such manifolds with a $C^{1,1}$ metric. To make these problems tractable in low regularity, we introduce and study a class of generalized Abel transforms and study their properties. This low regularity setting is relevant for geophysical applications.
