Familial adenomatosis polyposis-related desmoid tumours treated with low-dose chemotherapy: Results from an international, multi-institutional, retro…
2019
[Introduction] Desmoid tumour (DT) is a locally aggressive fibroblastic proliferative disease representing the most common extraintestinal manifestation of familial adenomatosis polyposis (FAP). As data on the activity of chemotherapy in these patients are limited, we examined the outcomes of patients treated with low-dose methotrexate (MTX)+vinca alkaloids (vinorelbine or vinblastine).
Survival of cervical cancer patients in Germany in the early 21st century: A period analysis by age, histology, and stage
2012
Background: Population-based studies on endometrial cancer providing survival estimates by age, histology, and stage have been sparse. We aimed to derive most up-to-date and detailed survival estimates for endometrial cancer patients in Germany. Methods: We used a pooled German national dataset including data from 11 cancer registries covering a population of 33 million people. 30,906 patients diagnosed with endometrial cancer in 1997-2006 were included. Period analysis was performed to calculate 5-year relative survival (RS) in 2002-2006. Trends in survival between 2002 and 2006 were examined using model-based period analysis. Age-adjustment was performed using five age groups (15-44, 45-5…
Imaging findings of primary breast sarcoma : results of a first multicenter study
2016
Abstract Purpose To investigate imaging findings in patients with primary breast sarcoma (PBS). Materials and methods A retrospective search in the databases of 10 radiological departments in Germany from 2000 to 2011 was performed. Only histologically proven cases of PBS were included into the study. Mammography was available in 31 patients (33 lesions), ultrasound images in 24 patients (24 lesions), and for 10 patients (14 lesions) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the breast was performed. The breast findings were classified according to the American College of Radiology Breast Imaging Reporting and Data Systems (BI-RADS) 5th edition categories. Collected data were evaluated by means o…
Clinical, therapeutic and prognostic features of osteosarcoma of the jaws - experience of 36 cases.
2012
Abstract Introduction Osteosarcoma of the jaws (OSJ) differs from osteosarcoma of other skeletal regions due to later development, a high mortality associated with the local disease, fewer incidences of metastases and its extreme rarity. In regard to clinical and pathological parameters as well as therapeutic approaches and prognosis, OSJ has not been specifically examined to date. In order to achieve a better understanding of this special malignancy, an evaluation of incidence, treatment and prognosis of patients with OSJ in our department over the past 38 years was conducted. Materials and methods A retrospective analysis of patients with OSJ between 1972 and 2010 was performed. Informati…
Myasthenia gravis associated with Charcot-Marie-Tooth neuropathy: report of a case
1992
We report the case of a 24 year old woman who developed myasthenia gravis in the course of a mild form of Charcot-Marie-Tooth neuropathy. We describe the clinical manifestations together with the neurophysiological, pathological, serological findings and response to therapy and discuss the unusual association in the light of the relevant literature. © 1992 Masson Italia Periodici S.r.l.
Pulmonary artery sarcoma with angiosarcoma phenotype mimicking pleomorphic malignant fibrous histiocytoma: a case report
2012
Abstract Primary sarcomas of the major blood vessels can be classified based on location in relationship to the wall or by histologic type. Angiosarcomas are malignant neoplasms that arise from the endothelial lining of the blood vessels; those arising in the intimal compartment of pulmonary artery are rare. We report a case of pulmonary artery angiosarcoma in a 36-year old female with pulmonary masses. The patient had no other primary malignant neoplasm, thus excluding a metastatic lesion. Gross examination revealed a thickened right pulmonary artery and a necrotic and hemorrhagic tumor, filling and occluding the vascular lumen. The mass extended distally, within the pulmonary vasculature …
Imaging of sarcopenia.
2016
Sarcopenia is currently considered a geriatric syndrome increasing in older people. The consequences of sarcopenia – in terms of impaired mobility, limited self-sufficiency and disability – have been amply demonstrated, increasing the need to develop methods to identify muscle mass loss as early as possible. Although sarcopenia involves a reduction in both muscle mass and function, loss of muscle mass remains the essential criterion for diagnosing this condition in daily practice. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging represent the gold standard for studying body composition, and can identify quantitative and qualitative changes in muscle mass. These techniques are costly, time…
Congenital dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans: 30 years of follow-up
2007
Summary Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a rare fibrohistiocytic tumor that commonly appears in adult patients. Few cases of DFSP in childhood have been reported. We describe a case of congenital DFSP that had been incompletely excised in childhood, and again at 28 years of age. The 33-year-old woman presented with a recurrence. When comparing the histologic features of the previous specimens excised in 1970 and 30 years later, the similar typical storiform pattern of fibromatous cells was found. The small number of proliferation-marker-positive cells was not altered over the course of 30 years. In line with a few additional reports, we suggest that congenital dermatofibrosarcoma p…

Ballon occlusion of the renal artery in tumor nephrectomy.
1975
AbstractA method of preoperative intraluminal occlusion of the renal artery in cases of kidney tumors using a 5F Swan-Ganz balloon catheter is presented. The procedure was used in 26 tumor nephrectomies without complications and resulted in marked facilitation of the operation in 70 per cent of the cases.
