Amerykańscy Polacy na frontach Wielkiej Wojny: współczesny symbol i treść
2023
Założeniem niniejszego artykułu jest zebranie w sposób systematyczny dotychczasowych ustaleń badawczych związanych z dokumentowaniem działań Polaków i Amerykanów polskiego pochodzenia walczących w szeregach Amerykańskiego Korpusu Ekspedycyjnego (American Expeditionary Forces, AEF).
Mercury in fish products: what’s the best for consumers between bluefin tuna and yellowfin tuna?
2017
A total of 205 bluefin and yellowfin tuna samples were examined for mercury detection in order to verify possible differences and have a detailed risk assessment of the two tuna species. The results showed significant higher mercury concentration in muscle tissue of bluefin tuna respect yellowfin tuna (p < 0.001) with mean concentration of 0.84 mg/kg and maximum value of 1.94 mg/kg. These differences can be due the different biological and ecological aspects of the two tuna species and to different oceanographic aspects between Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean sea. The results obtained in this study suggest an advisable containment of the sources of pollution and further studies on the c…
A new species of the genus Zalophotrema (Digenea: Campulidae), Zalophotrema atlanticum n. sp., from the liver of the striped dolphin Stenella coerule…
1991
Zalophotrema atlanticum n. sp. from the liver of a striped dolphin, Stenella coeruleoalba (Meyen, 1833), stranded in the Canary Islands is described. This new species differs from the other Zalophotrema species in body dimensions and relative size and position of the suckers and cirrus-sac. This is the first record of a species of the genus Zalophotrema in the striped dolphin, and the Atlantic Ocean constitutes a new locality record for this genus.
North-Atlantic Oscillation and regional-scale sea-surge variability in Gulf of Lions during the 20th century
2010
Article soumis; International audience; Sea-surge variations recorded at three tide-gauge stations (Grau-de-la-Dent, Sète, and Port-Vendres) around the Gulf of Lions (Northwest Mediterranean Sea) are mostly locally forced by onshore winds blowing from 90° to 180° related to an atmospheric depression usually centered between the Bay of Biscay and the British Island, which is more prevalent during the negative phase of the North-Atlantic Oscillation (NAO). During the second half of the 20th century, the long-term increase of sea-surge height at Grau-de-la-Dent finds no counterpart in the positive deviation of the NAO. The relationship between the monthly frequency of sea surges > 20 cm at Gra…
Recent changes in measured wind in the NE Atlantic and variability of correlation with NAO
2010
The paper deals with wind measurements, recorded since the 1950s, at twelve meteorological stations along a transect near the westernmost European border, between 64° and 44° N. Extreme wind speed tends to decrease sharply near the northern boundary (at Reykjavick), near the middle of the study area (at Shannon and Valentia) and near the southern boundary (at Brest and Cap Ferret), to increase at Thorshavn, with less significant trends at the other stations. Average wind speeds confirm the above tendencies, with an additional increasing speed at Lerwick, Kirkwall, Malin Head, Belle-Ile and Cap Ferret. To compare changes in wind activity, the data have been subdivided into three periods: unt…
Nouvelles données sur la localité type et la morphométrie dentaire du campagnol de Gerbe Microtus pyrenaicus gerbei (Gerbe, 1879) (Cricetidae, Rodent…
2015
New data on type locality and dental morphometry of the Gerbe’s vole Microtus pyrenaicus gerbei (Gerbe, 1879) (Cricetidae, Rodentia). The synthesis of the historical research done on Arthur de L’Isle du Dréneuf’s life, the discoverer of the Gerbe’s vole Microtus pyrenaicus gerbei (Gerbe, 1879), and the circumstances connected with this discovery, allow to say that its type locality is the municipality of La Haie-Fouassière (Loire-Atlantique, France). The analysis of teeth found in pellets of barn owl from Pornic (Loire-Atlantique, France) has confirmed the odontometrical differentiation previously observed in M. pyrenaicus gerbei.
Variations in intensity of the westerly monsoon-like flow from the tropical Atlantic and summer rainfall over equatorial and tropical southern Africa
2009
International audience; An empirical orthogonal function (EOF) of the onshore flow of moisture along the west coast of southern Africa using NCEP-DOE AMIP-2 re-analyses suggests two dominant modes of variability that are linked to: (a) variations within the circulation linked to the mid-latitude westerlies and the South Atlantic anticyclone, (b) the intensity of the westerly flow from the tropical Atlantic. The second mode, referred to as the Equatorial Westerly mode, contributes the most to moisture input from the Atlantic onto the subconti-nent at tropical latitudes. This mode appears to be associated with large-scale rainfall anomalies over the upper lands surrounding the Congo basin in …
Global sea-to-air flux climatology for bromoform, dibromomethane and methyl iodide
2013
Volatile halogenated organic compounds containing bromine and iodine, which are naturally produced in the ocean, are involved in ozone depletion in both the troposphere and stratosphere. Three prominent compounds transporting large amounts of marine halogens into the atmosphere are bromoform (CHBr3), dibromomethane (CH2Br2) and methyl iodide (CH3I). The input of marine halogens to the stratosphere has been estimated from observations and modelling studies using low-resolution oceanic emission scenarios derived from top-down approaches. In order to improve emission inventory estimates, we calculate data-based high resolution global sea-to-air flux estimates of these compounds from surface ob…
