Metal−Metal Bonding and Metallic Behavior in Some ABO2 Delafossites

We present results of ab initio band structure calculations on some ABO2 delafossite oxides that have both the A and B sites occupied by transition metals. This class of materials includes insulators as well as some of the most conducting oxides. The calculations have been performed in order to understand the nature of the metallic and insulating states and the extensive metal−metal bonding displayed by these materials. The effect of polytypism on the electronic structure is examined. Scanning Probe Microscopy Study of the Metal-Rich Layered Chalcogenides TaM2Te2 (M = Co, Ni)

The compounds TaNi2Te2 and TaCo2Te2 have been examined by scanning tunneling and atomic force microscopy. The title phases crystallize in layered structures with metal slabs sandwiched by tellurium atoms. Scanning probe microscope images of the surfaces of these materials arise from the surface tellurium atoms anddepending on the experimental conditionscan show very different features. The images have been simulated through surface charge densities calculated within the Extended Huckel and LMTO frameworks.

Role of plastic deformation and microstructure in the micro-electrochemical behaviour of Ti–6Al–4V in sodium chloride solution

Abstract The role of alloying elements and the influence of plastic deformation on the micro-electrochemical behaviour and the pitting corrosion susceptibility of TiAl6V4 have been investigated in 10 g/L NaCl using the electrochemical microcell technique. Local electrochemical measurements have revealed that both the increase of surface roughness and the increase of dislocation density have impact on the electrochemical behaviour of TiAl6V4 after plastic deformation. It has been shown the surface roughness induced by slip band emergence is the predominant parameter responsible for the increase of the cathodic current. Dipoles in 4,12,4-graphyne

Abstract In present work, B-N pairs as dipole source were introduced into 4,12,4-graphyne. According to the density functional theory (DFT) simulations, the electronic configurations of the doped 4,12,4-graphyne systems were significantly modified owing to the built-in electric fields caused by the B-N dipoles. Different B-N concentrations and arrangements can alter the electronic structure of 4,12,4-graphyne. Consequently, an obvious in-plane piezoelectricity can also be induced. Moreover, the direct band gap can be delicately modulated from 150 meV to 660 meV at PBE level. Simultaneous recording of skin blood pulsations at different vascular depths by multiwavelength photoplethysmography.

A new technique for parallel recording of reflection photoplethysmography (PPG) signals in a broad spectral band (violet to near-infrared) has been developed, and its potential for assessment of blood microcirculation at various depths from the skin surface is discussed. PPG signals have been simultaneously detected at cw laser wavelength sets comprising 405, 532, 645, 807, and 1064 nm. Various signal baseline responses to breath holding and different shapes of the PPG pulses originated from the same heartbeat but recorded at different wavelengths have been observed, indicating a depth variety of the skin blood pulsation dynamics.

High-Resolution Spectroscopy and Analysis of the nu(4) Bending Region of SF(6) near 615 cm(-1).

The high-resolution Fourier transform spectrum of the nu(4) bending region of SF(6) near 615 cm(-1) has been recorded at 213 K. We were able to perform a simultaneous analysis of the nu(4) and nu(4) + nu(6) - nu(6) bands of the main isotopomer, namely (32)SF(6). This is the first detailed analysis of a hot band for this molecule. The nu(4) band of (34)SF(6) was also analyzed and the Q branch of the nu(4) band of (33)SF(6) was identified. Two-color holographic-grating formation in amorphous As_2S_3 films

A detailed experimental study of the holographic gratings recorded in nonannealed amorphous As2S3 films by 514.5-nm light in the presence of 632.8-nm readout light is carried out. A strong influence of a continuous 632.8-nm readout is found. The dependences of the maximal first-order diffraction efficiency and the corresponding specific recording energy on the holographic grating period were studied in a wide range of periods from 0.40 to 70.0 μm for 2-yr-old films. The obtained results are discussed in terms of photoinduced structural changes, relaxational structural changes, photoinduced anisotropy, and photoinduced recharging of the localized states in the bandgap. Correlated effects of fluorine and hydrogen in fluorinated tin oxide (FTO) transparent electrodes deposited by sputtering at room temperature

The optical and electrical properties of fluorinated tin oxide (FTO) films deposited at room temperature by sputtering have been investigated varying the fluorine content and the hydrogen atmosphere. The complex behavior of the obtained films is disclosed using a wide set of characterization techniques that reveals the combined effects of these two parameters on the generated defects. These defects control the electrical transport (carrier density, mobility and conductivity), the optical properties (band gap and defects-related absorption and photoluminescence) and finally promote the amorphization of the samples.
