Immobilization of natural anti-oxidants on carbon nanotubes and aging behavior of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene-based nanocomposites

The use of natural antioxidants is an attractive way to formulate nanocomposites with extended durability and with potential applications in bio-medical field. In this work, Vitamin E (VE) in the form of α-tocopherol and Quercetin (Q) are physically immobilized on the outer surface of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs). Afterward, the CNTs-VE and CNTs-Q are used to formulate thermally stable ultra high molecular weight polyethylene based nanocomposites. The obtained results in the study of the thermo-oxidation behavior suggest a beneficial effect of the natural anti-oxidant carbon nanotubes systems. Heavy metal ion induction of adhesion molecules and cytokines in human endothelial cells: the role of NF-kappaB, I kappaB-alpha and AP-1.

We analyzed the influence of heavy-metal ions on human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) in comparison to proinflammatory cytokines (TNF-alpha, IL-1beta) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Adhesion molecule and cytokine expressions are upregulated by heavy-metal exposure. Expression of E-selectin on the cell surface was strongly induced by 1-mM concentrations of NiCl2 and CoCl2, whereas ZnCl2 and CrCl3 had no influence. Furthermore, it is shown that NiCl2 induces mRNA expression of E-selectin, intercellular adhesion molecule-1, IL-6 and IL-8 in a 1-mM concentration. Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is closely associated with a constellation of metabolic comorbidities which include: obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and hypercholesteremia. Zivju eļļu uztura bagātinātāju popularitāte arvien pieaug to veselības ieguvumu dēļ, pateicoties eikozapentaēnskābei (EPS) un dokozaheksaēnskābei (DHS). Tā ir laba alternatīva, ja uzturā netiek lietotas zivis. Tomēr polinepiesātinātās taukskābes ir viegli oksidējamas un ir bažas par to iespējamo negatīvo efektu. Maģistra darba mērķis bija izpētīt Latvijas aptiekās pieejamo zivju eļļu uzturu bagātinātāju primārās oksidācijas līmeni un cenu diapazonu. Darba gaitā noskaidrojām, ka Latvijas aptiekās ir pieejami vairāk nekā 40 zivju eļļas uztura bagātinātāji. Studiens hensikt var å undersøke forholdet mellom elevers tilhørighet i kroppsøvingstimene, deres opplevelse av motivasjonsklimaet i faget og deres intensjon om å være fysisk aktive etter endt obligatorisk skolegang, samt å undersøke i hvilken grad autonom og kontrollert motivasjon medierte det ovennevnte forholdet. Tverrsnittsdata fra 2610 avgangselever ved ungdoms- og videregående skoler fra fire forskjellige geografiske områder i Norge dannet grunnlaget for mediasjonsanalysen. Denne målte indirekte effekter ved hjelp av en bias-korrigert bootstrapping metode.
