Functional Inactivation of pRB Results in Aneuploid Mammalian Cells After Release From a Mitotic Block

AbstractThe widespread chromosome instability observed in tumors and in early stage carcinomas suggests that aneuploidy could be a prerequisite for cellular transformation and tumor initiation. Defects in tumor suppressers and genes that are part of mitotic checkpoints are likely candidates for the aneuploid phenotype. By using flow cytometric, cytogenetic, immunocytochemistry techniques we investigated whether pRB deficiency could drive perpetual aneuploidy in normal human and mouse fibroblasts after mitotic checkpoint challenge by microtubule-destabilizing drugs. The bacterial cytolethal distending toxin (CDT) was previously shown to arrest the tumor-derived HeLa cell line in the G2-phase of the cell cycle through inactivation of CDK1, a cyclin-dependent kinase whose state of activation determines entry into mitosis. We have analysed the effects induced in HeLa cells by CDT, in comparison to those induced by etoposide, a prototype anti-tumoral agent that triggers a G2 cell cycle checkpoint by inducing DNA damage. Both CDT and etoposide inhibit cell proliferation and induces the formation of enlarged mononucleated cells blocked in G2. Resveratrol, a chemopreventive agent, disrupts the cell cycle control of human SW480 colorectal tumor cells

Resveratrol is a natural polyphenolic compound produced by a number of plants and found in high amount in peanuts, seeds, grapes or berries as source of human nutrition. Epidemiological studies strongly suggest that resveratrol may act as a cancer chemopreventive compound. The mechanism by which resveratrol inhibits cell proliferation was studied in human colorectal tumor SW480 cell line. The results show that resveratrol strongly inhibits cell proliferation at the micromolar range in a time- and dose-dependent manner. $(BV,L^p)$-decomposition, $p=1,2$, of Functions in Metric Random Walk Spaces

In this paper we study the $(BV,L^p)$-decomposition, $p=1,2$, of functions in metric random walk spaces, a general workspace that includes weighted graphs and nonlocal models used in image processing. We obtain the Euler-Lagrange equations of the corresponding variational problems and their gradient flows. In the case $p=1$ we also study the associated geometric problem and the thresholding parameters.

If [math] , then there is a canonical correspondence between the irreducible complex characters of [math] of degree not divisible by [math] belonging to the principal block of [math] and the linear characters of [math] . As a consequence, we give a characterization of finite groups that possess a self-normalizing Sylow [math] -subgroup or a [math] -decomposable Sylow normalizer.

Elementary (-1)-curves of P-3

In this note we deal with rational curves in P^3 which are images of a line by means of a finite sequence of cubo-cubic Cremona transformations. We prove that these curves can always be obtained applying to the line a sequence of such transformations increasing at each step the degree of the curve. As a corollary we get a result about curves that can give speciality for linear systems of P^3.

On multiples of divisors associated to Veronese embeddings with defective secant variety

In this note we consider multiples aD, where D is a divisor of the blow-up of P^n along points in general position which appears in the Alexander and Hirschowitz list of Veronese embeddings having defective secant varieties. In particular we show that there is such a D with h^1(X,D) > 0 and h^1(X,2D) = 0.

Double adjunctions and free monads

We characterize double adjunctions in terms of presheaves and universal squares, and then apply these characterizations to free monads and Eilenberg--Moore objects in double categories. We improve upon our earlier result in "Monads in Double Categories", JPAA 215:6, pages 1174-1197, 2011, to conclude: if a double category with cofolding admits the construction of free monads in its horizontal 2-category, then it also admits the construction of free monads as a double category. We also prove that a double category admits Eilenberg--Moore objects if and only if a certain parameterized presheaf is representable. Chemotherapy-Induced Neuropathy and Diabetes: A Scoping Review

Although cancer and diabetes are common diseases, the relationship between diabetes, neuropathy and the risk of developing peripheral sensory neuropathy while or after receiving chemotherapy is uncertain. In this review, we highlight the effects of chemotherapy on the onset or progression of neuropathy in diabetic patients. We searched the literature in Medline and Scopus, covering all entries until 31 January 2021.
