Le pouvoir de la foule. Horizon de la démocratie
2019
2019
This paper explores how the anthropology of communication, as formalized by Yves Winkin further to his work on the “invisible college” of Palo Alto, enhances research in information and communication sciences into the political field. The anthropological approach based on the “new communication” model seems essential to understanding the failure in communication besetting the fundamental relation between those who govern and those who are governed especially in France. The Gilets jaunes (yellow vests) crisis illustrates and drives this proposal by widening the scope of analysis defined by the specialists of political communication to encompass all the actors, institutions, and processes inv…
El Socialismo Valenciano. 1939-1978.
The article examines the reforms introduced by Minister Manuel Lora-Tamayo at the University (1962-1968), with special emphasis on technical education and contextualized at the time, characterized by the growth and social change, the emergence of new middle class and the conflict of students and young teachers.

El anillo ecuestre áureo de Molata de Casa Vieja, Almaciles (Puebla de Don Fadrique, Granada)
2019
We here document an Iberian gold ring, which we have recently been able to study. It was found at some time between the late 1960s and mid-1980s, near Molata de Casa Vieja, one of the most important oppida in Alta Andalucía. The engraved bezel is of a schematic style, and derives from the iconic Iberian rider, ubiquitous on the pre–Roman coinage. It adds a new representation to this already rich corpus. The image of the rider was frequently used by the Iberian elite between the 3rd and 2nd centuries BC. The ring is now par t of the collection of the Archaeological Museum of Murcia.
Preventing Violence in Seven Countries: Global Convergence in Policies
2007
Do governments take the measures that are supported by the best scientific evidence available? We present a brief review of the situation in: Australia, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Our findings show surprisingly similar developments across countries. While all seven countries are moving towards evidence-based decision making regarding policies and programs to prevent violence, there remain a number of difficulties before this end can be achieved. For example, there continue to be few randomized controlled trials or rigorous quasi-experimental studies on aggression and violence. Results from experimental research are essential to both p…
Towards a critical understanding of data visualisation in democracy: a deliberative systems approach
2021
Data and data visualisations – in the forms of graphs, charts and maps – are becoming an increasingly important feature of social, public and political life. Yet within existing scholarship, the democratic significance of data visualisations has thus far received minimal attention. This article offers a first systematic attempt to make sense of and scrutinise the role of data visualisation in democracy. We apply deliberative systems theory in the analysis of three original case studies to elucidate how data visualisation can integrate into the overall anatomy of democracy, and to normatively assess how data visualisation contributes towards key democratic ideals. Conclusively, we highlight …
A comparative molecular dynamics-phase-field modeling approach to brittle fracture
2016
Abstract In this work, a novel comparative method for highly brittle materials such as aragonite crystals is proposed, which provides an efficient and accurate in-sight understanding for multi-scale fracture modeling. In particular, physically-motivated molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are performed to model quasi-static brittle crack propagation on the nano-scale and followingly compared to macroscopic modeling of fracture using the phase-field modeling (PFM) technique. A link between the two modeling schemes is later proposed by deriving PFM parameters from the MD atomistic simulations. Thus, in this combined approach, MD simulations provide a more realistic meaning and physical estima…
