Bifocal Stimulation in Patient with Congenitally Corrected Transposition of Great Vessels

2011

Congenitally corrected transposition of the great vessels (CCTGV) is a rare congenital heart defect associated with multiple cardiac morphological abnormalities and conduction defects. Complete atrioventricular (AV) block occurs in 30% of patients and it may be present at birth or develop later with a rate of 2% per year; moreover, a systemic right ventricle is frequently characterized by heart failure in adult life. We used a bifocal cardiac stimulation for a young woman affected by CCTGV and atrioventricular Mobitz 2 and 2:1 block, considering structural, anatomic condition, and the high rate of pacing she underwent. Study of gender differences in VR response following cardiac surgery.

2017

Cardiac and other invasive surgical procedures cause significant anxiety and stress to patients and their family members. In this study Virtual Reality (VR) was used as a method to reduce stress, anxiety and pain in patients undergoing surgical procedures. This study compared a cohort of patients in the interval prior to and successive to the surgery, differentiating the responses achieved by males and females and comparing the effectiveness. The results are encouraging: they demonstrate the efficacy of VR treatment and the safety of the method and detection of differences in the responses based on gender.

The Prognostic Role of Hypertrabeculation By Cardiac Magnetic Resonance in Thalassemia Intermedia Patients

2016

Abstract Background. Differentiation of left ventricle non-compaction (LVNC) from hypertrabeculated LV due to a negative heart remodeling in thalassemia intermedia (TI) can depends on the selected CMR criterion. The recently proposed Piga's criterion (NC/C ratio threshold of >2.5, Am J Haem 2012) seems to have a low specificity to identify the true LVNC in TI. Anyway, the Piga's criterion could well detect easy a negative heart remodeling in TI patients. Purpose: To assess prospectively whether the Piga's criterion has a prognostic role for adverse cardiovascular outcomes in TI patients. Methods. We studied prospectively by CMR 168 TI patients (81 males, mean age 38.32 ±11.61 years) cons…

Effects of Tolazoline and Prostacyclin on Pulmonary Hypertension in Infants After Cardiac Surgery

1992

Objective To evaluate the hemodynamic effects of tolazoline and prostacyclin in infants with pulmonary vasospasm after cardiac surgery. Design Prospective cohort study. Setting Pediatric ICU. Patients The cohort consisted of 42 infants and children with congenital heart disease and pulmonary hypertension who underwent corrective surgery and were monitored postoperatively using pulmonary artery catheters. Fourteen infants (2 to 12 months old) in this group required postoperative treatment with tolazoline or prostacyclin. Interventions Tolazoline was administered as a bolus of 0.5 mg/kg for treatment of persistent pulmonary hypertension or acute pulmonary hypertensive crisis. If its effective…

Biomarkers in Community-Acquired Pneumonia (Cardiac and Non-Cardiac)

2020

Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) remains the first cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide due to infection. Several aspects such as severity and host response are related to its clinical course and outcome. Beyond the acute implications that the infection provokes in the host, pneumonia also has long-term negative consequences. Among them, cardiovascular complications and mortality are the most outstanding. Therefore, an adequate recognition and stratification of the risk of complications and mortality is crucial. Many biomarkers have been studied for these reasons, considering that each biomarker mirrors a different aspect. Moreover, the clinical application of many of them is still …

Stereotaktische Biopsie von Hirntumoren: Vergleich von CT-und MR-gesteuerter Berechnung

1989
