Osteocondroma solitario de la escápula: localización poco habitual para un tumor frecuente
2021
Osteochondroma is a benign bone tumor that usually affects children and young adults. It is typically located in the metaphysis of long bones around the knee, although it could also affect flat bones like scapula. We report the case of a 11-year-old child with one year of evolution painful tumor at the dorsal surface of the scapula. He was diagnosed with osteochondroma of the scapula, uncommon location for this tumor. Due to the persistence of the symptomatology surgical excision was performed.
Niedermolekulares Heparin bei Frühgeborenen mit hereditären Risikofaktoren und venösen Thrombosen
2006
We describe the use of low molecular weight heparin to treat venous thrombosis in two very low-birth-weight pre-term infants (GA: 30 and 27 weeks) both with genetic and acquired prothrombotic risk factors. Initially both infants were treated with unfractionated heparin. Since in one infant no effect on the thrombus size was observed and in the other infant there was an increase in size, the anticoagulation therapy was switched to subcutaneously injected low molecular heparin (Enoxaparin). During enoxaparin therapy the anti-Xa-level was carefully monitored and dosages were adjusted accordingly. Partial resolution of the thrombosis was achieved in both infants during enoxaparin therapy. No cl…
855 Double Blind Placebo Controlled Food Challenge Useful to Disconfirm Over Estimated Diagnosis of Cmpa in Children
2010
Background and aims: The incidence of CMPA in infancy seems to be approximately 3%. In Italy diagnosis of CMPA is often over estimated. The double-blind, placebo controlled food challenge(DBPCFC) is widely considered as the “gold standard” for the diagnosis of food allergy. Methods: 14 patients, (12 months-12 yrs) previously diagnosed as having CMPA, underwent our diagnostic algorithm in order to confirm or to exclude diagnosis. Diagnostic algorithm includes: total blood cell count, serum IgE assay, RAST, betalactotest, Prick by prick with fresh milk, chemical examination and eosinophilic cell count of the stools. DBPCFC was performed with extensively hydrolyzed formula (as placebo) VS a la…
The double uterus associated with an obstructed hemivagina: Clinical management
1991
Abstract The clinical management of It) patients, 9 with uterus didelphys and 1 with complete septate uterus associated with an obstructed hemivagina, is described. The diagnostic evaluation revealed a complete unilateral obstruction in four patients, and an anomalous communication between the two uterovaginal channels in six. In all such patients, the presence of regular menses is frequently misleading, perhaps resulting in unnecessary laparotomy and inadequate or extirpative surgery with negative reproductive consequences. However, diagnosis is simplified if the gynecologist is aware of the malformation. Recommended treatment consists of evacuation of the retained menstruum and excision o…

Erstellung einer Kompatibilitätstabelle für die intravenöse Pharmakotherapie auf neonatologischen und pädiatrischen Intensivstationen
2007
Background Modern neonatal and pediatric intensive care includes a sophisticated pharmacotherapy with numerous drugs, mainly administered intravenously. Often, despite the use of multi-lumen central venous lines, more peripheral venous accesses are required. To reduce the necessity of numerous venous lines on one hand and on the other hand to avoid complications from incompatibilities of the administered drugs, we compiled a compatibility chart, encompassing more substances than covered in previously available charts. Methods Information on compatibility of commonly prescribed drugs was collected by analysis of manufacturers' information, medical and pharmaceutical handbooks, and a literatu…
797 Infliximab in the Treatment of Pediatric Ibd: A Single Centre Experience
2010
Background and aims: The biological treatment of IBD acts on different stages of immunophysiopathological processes of the disease. We describe evolution and clinical response to Infliximab in paediatric patients affected by IBD diagnosed and followed at our centre. Methods: In the last triennial period at our Department of Paediatrics in Palermo 53 infusions of Infliximab were administrated to our patients affected by severe forms of IBD. All patients but one were affected by several forms of CD. Only one child was affected by U.C. associated to pyoderma gangrenosum. The total number of infusions were administrated according the ACCENT 1 study at a dose of 5 mg/Kg. All the infusions were p…
The Role of Preschool Hours in Achieving Physical Activity Recommendations for Preschoolers
2021
Research on physical activity (PA) in different educational settings could elucidate which interventions promote a healthy school lifestyle in early childhood education (ECE). The aims of this study were: (a) to analyse the PA levels of preschoolers during school hours, as well as the rate of compliance with specific recommendations on total PA (TPA) and moderate-vigorous PA (MVPA)
Intervention Programs to Promote the Quality of Caregiver–Child Interactions in Childcare: A Systematic Literature Review
2021
Sensitive caregiver–child interactions appear fundamental throughout childhood, supporting infants’ wellbeing and development not only in a familial context but in professional caregiving as well. The main aim of this review was to examine the existing literature about Early Childhood Education Context (ECEC) intervention studies dedicated to caregiver–child interaction, fostering children’s socioemotional developmental pathways. Studies published between January 2007 and July 2021 were identified in four electronic databases following PRIMSA guidelines. The initial search yielded a total of 342 records. Among them, 48 studies were fully reviewed. Finally, 18 of them met all inclusion crite…
