Cyber Security Strategy Implementation Architecture in a Value System

2018

In this chapter, we introduce an approach toward enhancing the quality of strategy implementation. As a framework, we use cybersecurity strategy implementation planning and execution. Justification for this work is the observed need to be able to perform strategy readjustment processes quickly and in an agile way, when needed. This requires processes and practices that are simple enough and executable with small resources in a relatively short timeframe. The problem statement can be formulated as follows: “We need to determine an utterly simplified, noncomplicated model to help us to tackle the complex problem of implementing a cybersecurity strategy of adequate efficiency in a changing ope…

Lesions to the posterior insular cortex cause dysarthria

2011

Background:  Up to now, there are few systematic studies in a sufficient number of patients with lesions involving the insular cortex (IC) examining whether damage of the IC is directly related to dysarthria. Thus, this is the first study applying modern voxel-lesion behaviour mapping (VLBM) aimed to examine whether the IC is involved in dysarthria – and if so – which part of the IC is involved. Methods:  Twenty-five patients with acute stroke lesions affecting the IC and peri-insular region were investigated employing VLBM analysis. Results:  Present data indicated that dysarthria is associated with stroke lesions affecting the right- and left-sided posterior IC. Conclusions:  Owing to the…

The effects of the provision of consulting services on audit reporting quality

2012

The growing complexity of the global business environment is leading innovative firms to demand further external counselling to better handle rapid change and increasing uncertainty. Likewise, the implementation of new information systems is usually carried out with the help of external advisors. This paper examines whether the provision of consulting services undermines audit reporting quality by testing for an association between advisory services and audit reporting. A cross-sectional logistic regression is estimated to test the relationship between consulting fees and the audit outcome. The evidence suggests that there is no statistically significant association between non-audit fees a…

Wild-type JAK2 secondary acute erythroleukemia developing after JAK2-V617F-mutated primary myelofibrosis.

2009

A 54-year-old female patient developed acute erythroleukemia after an 8-year course of primary myelofibrosis. The latter harbors the JAK2-V617F mutation and was treated with hydroxyurea and anagrelide. A bone marrow trephine biopsy disclosed 2 morphologically distinct areas of chronic primary myelofibrosis and acute erythroleukemia. Microdissection and a separate molecular pathological analysis was performed. Although the activating JAK2-V617F mutation was not maintained in blasts of acute erythroleukemia, it was detectable in the chronic phase of primary myelofibrosis, indicating that this mutation did not play a role in the leukemic transformation of erythroid cells.

Disciplinary Sanctions and Audit Quality: Empirical Evidence from an External Oversight System

2010

This paper provides empirical evidence on the impact of disciplinary sanctions on audit quality, based on the external oversight system set up in Spain in the early nineties. Specifically, we examine the effects of the sanctions imposed by the Institute of Accounting and Auditing (ICAC), a government regulatory agency independent from the auditing industry. To proxy for audit quality, two client-specific earnings quality indicators are considered; i.e. the likelihood of loss reporting and abnormal accruals. According to our results, the Spanish external oversight system does not penalise isolated but structural audit malpractice, since sanctioned auditors exhibit lower average audit quality…

Therapy with lamivudine and steroids in a patient with acute hepatitis B and rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis.

2006

To the Editor: Tang et al.1 recently reported that lamivudine (LAM) improves renal outcome in patients with chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and membranous nephropathy. We would like to add our experience on acute hepatitis B and rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis.

Efficacy and safety of Cyprofloxacin XR 1000mg once daily versus Ciprofloxacin 500mg twice daily in the treatment of complicated urinary tract infect…

2009

The aim of this trial was to compare the efficacy and safety of extended-release ciprofloxacin (CIPRO XR) versus the immediate-release formulation (CIPRO IR) in the treatment of complicated urinary tract infections (UTIs). 212 patients were randomized to CIPRO XR 1,000 mg tablet once daily or CIPROXIN IR 500 mg tablet twice daily. Treatment efficacy was evaluated by bacteriological outcome. Safety was measured by recording adverse events. The rate of bacteriological eradication was 83% in the CIPRO XR group and 75% in the CIPRO IR. the overall incidence of adverse events reported was higher in the CIPRO IR group. The authors conclude that CIPRO XR is a safe and effective treatment for compl…

Instruction of haematopoietic lineage choices, evolution of transcriptional landscapes and cancer stem cell hierarchies derived from an AML1-ETO mous…

2013

The t(8;21) chromosomal translocation activates aberrant expression of the AML1-ETO (AE) fusion protein and is commonly associated with core binding factor acute myeloid leukaemia (CBF AML). Combining a conditional mouse model that closely resembles the slow evolution and the mosaic AE expression pattern of human t(8;21) CBF AML with global transcriptome sequencing, we find that disease progression was characterized by two principal pathogenic mechanisms. Initially, AE expression modified the lineage potential of haematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), resulting in the selective expansion of the myeloid compartment at the expense of normal erythro- and lymphopoiesis. This lineage skewing was foll…
