Identification of low-lying proton-based intruder states in189–193Pb
2002
Low-lying proton-based intruder states have been observed in the odd-mass isotopes Pb-189,Pb-191,Pb-193 in experiments at the RITU gas-filled recoil separator. The identification has been performed ...
β−-delayed spectroscopy of neutron-rich tantalum nuclei: Shape evolution in neutron-rich tungsten isotopes
2009
The low-lying structure of W-188,W-190,W-192 has been studied following beta decays of the neutron-rich mother nuclei Ta-188,Ta-190,Ta-192 produced following the projectile fragmentation of a 1-GeV-per-nucleon Pb-208 primary beam on a natural beryllium target at the GSI Fragment Separator. The beta-decay half-lives of Ta-188, Ta-190, and Ta-192 have been measured, with gamma-ray decays of low-lying states in their respective W daughter nuclei, using heavy-ion beta-gamma correlations and a position-sensitive silicon detector setup. The data provide information on the low-lying excited states in W-188, W-190, and W-192, which highlight a change in nuclear shape at W-190 compared with that of …
Two-neutrino double-beta decay of76Ge in an anharmonic vibrator approach
2009
We have calculated the nuclear matrix element of two-neutrino double-beta (2???) decay of 76Ge by using the proton?neutron microscopic anharmonic vibrator approach (pnMAVA). In the pnMAVA the wavefunctions of the intermediate 1+ states in 76As have a one-phonon part containing the proton?neutron QRPA (pnQRPA) phonons and a two-phonon part built by coupling the pnQRPA and charge-conserving QRPA phonons. We compare the measured GT? and GT+ Gamow?Teller strength functions with the measured ones. The two-phonon components of the pnMAVA wavefunctions cause the pnQRPA strength to redistribute over a finite energy range. This has only a small effect on the value 2??? nuclear matrix element. This s…
Effects of orbital occupancies on the neutrinoless beta-beta matrix element of 76Ge
2008
In this work we use the recently measured neutron occupancies in the 76Ge and 76Se nuclei as a guideline to define the neutron quasiparticle states in the 1p0f0g shell. We define the proton quasiparticles by inspecting the odd-mass nuclei adjacent to 76Ge and 76Se. We insert the resulting quasiparticles in a proton-neutron quasiparticle random-phase approximation (pnQRPA) calculation of the nuclear matrix element of the neutrinoless double beta (0-nu-beta-beta) decay of 76Ge. A realistic model space and effective microscopic two-nucleon interactions are used. We include the nucleon-nucleon short-range correlations and other relevant corrections at the nucleon level. It is found that the res…

Proton radioactivity of117La
2001
A new more precise measurement of the ground-state proton decay of ${}^{117}\mathrm{La}$ is presented $[{E}_{p}=806(5) \mathrm{keV},$ ${t}_{1/2,p}=26(3)$ ms]. ${}^{117}\mathrm{La}$ was produced via the $p4n$ fusion-evaporation channel by bombarding a ${}^{64}\mathrm{Zn}$ target with 310 and 295 MeV ${}^{58}\mathrm{Ni}$ beams. The proton decay rate is consistent with emission from a prolate deformed ${3/2}^{+}$ or ${3/2}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ Nilsson state. No evidence is found for a previously reported proton decay from a high spin isomer in ${}^{117}\mathrm{La}.$ An upper limit for the production cross section for proton decay of ${}^{116}\mathrm{La}$ at a bombarding energy of 325 MeV was esta…
High-spin states beyond the proton drip-line: Quasiparticle alignments in 113 Cs
2014
Abstract Excited states have been studied in the deformed proton emitter 113Cs. Gamma-ray transitions have been unambiguously assigned to 113Cs by correlation with its characteristic proton decay, using the method of recoil-decay tagging. Two previously identified rotational bands have been observed and extended to tentative spins of 45/2 and 51 / 2 ħ , with excitation energies over 8 MeV above the lowest state. These are the highest angular momenta and excitation energies observed to date in any nucleus beyond the proton drip-line. Transitions in the bands have been rearranged compared to previous work. A study of aligned angular momenta, in comparison to the predictions of Woods–Saxon cra…
α-decay spectroscopy of deformed nuclei reexamined
2008
We perform an extensive analysis of $\ensuremath{\alpha}$-decays to ${2}^{+}$ and ${4}^{+}$ states in deformed even-even nuclei by using the stationary coupled channels approach. Collective excitations are described within the rigid rotor model. The $\ensuremath{\alpha}$-nucleus interaction is given by a double folding procedure with M3Y plus Coulomb nucleon-nucleon forces. We use a repulsive potential with one independent parameter in order to localize the $\ensuremath{\alpha}$-particle on the nuclear surface and to fit the experimental $Q$-value. The decaying state is identified with the first resonance inside the resulting pocket-like potential, as suggested by microscopic calculations. …

Trap-assisted decay spectroscopy with ISOLTRAP
2012
Penning traps are excellent high-precision mass spectrometers for radionuclides. The high-resolving power used for cleaning isobaric and even isomeric contaminants can be exploited to improve decay-spectroscopy studies by delivering purified samples. An apparatus allowing trap-assisted decay spectroscopy has been coupled to the ISOLTRAP mass spectrometer at ISOLDE/CERN. The results from studies with stable and radioactive ions show that the setup can be used to perform decay studies on purified short-lived nuclides and to assist mass measurements.
