Rapid determination of sterols in vegetable oils by CEC using methacrylate ester-based monolithic columns

2008

A method for the determination of sterols in vegetable oils by CEC with UV-Vis detection, using methacrylate ester-based monolithic columns, has been developed. To prepare the columns, polymerization mixtures containing monomers of different hydrophobicities were tried. The influence of composition of polymerization mixture was optimized in terms of porogenic solvent, monomers/porogens and monomer/crosslinker ratios. The composition of the mobile phase was also studied. The optimum monolith was obtained with lauryl methacrylate monomer at 60:40% (wt:wt) lauryl methacrylate/ethylene dimethacrylate ratio and 60 wt% porogens with 20 wt% of 1,4-butanediol (12 wt% 1,4-butanediol in the polymeriz…

Enantioseparation of nuarimol by affinity electrokinetic chromatography-partial filling technique using human serum albumin as chiral selector

2008

The present paper deals with the enantiomeric separation of nuarimol enantiomers by affinity EKC-partial filling technique using HSA as chiral selector. Firstly, a study of nuarimol interactions with HSA by CE-frontal analysis was performed. The binding parameters obtained for the first site of interaction were n(1) = 0.84; K(1) = 9.7 +/- 0.3x10(3 )M(-1) and the protein binding percentage of nuarimol at physiological concentration of HSA was 75.2 +/- 0.2%. Due to the moderate affinity of nuarimol towards HSA the possibility of using this protein as chiral selector for the separation of nuarimol using the partial filling technique was evaluated. A multivariate optimization approach of the mo…

Capillary Electrophoresis of Free Fatty Acids by Indirect Ultraviolet Detection: Application to the Classification of Vegetable Oils According to The…

2011

A method for the determination of fatty acids in vegetable oils by capillary electrophoresis with indirect UV–vis detection has been developed. The separation of fatty acids was optimized in terms of Brij surfactant nature and concentration and organic modifier (2-propanol) percentage. The optimal background electrolyte consisted of 10 mM p-hydroxybenzoate, 5 mM Tris at pH 8.8, 80 mM Brij 98, 40% acetonitrile, and 10% 2-propanol. Under these conditions, vegetable oils from five botanical origins (avocado, corn, extra virgin olive, hazelnut, and soybean) were analyzed and the fatty acid contents established. Linear discriminant analysis (LDA) models were constructed using fatty acid peak are…

Seasonal cycles and variability of O3 and H2O in the UT/LMS during SPURT

2005

Abstract. Airborne high resolution in situ measurements of a large set of trace gases including ozone (O3) and total water (H2O) in the upper troposphere and the lowermost stratosphere (UT/LMS) have been performed above Europe within the SPURT project. With its innovative campaign concept, SPURT provides an extensive data coverage of the UT/LMS in each season within the time period between November 2001 and July 2003. Ozone volume mixing ratios in the LMS show a distinct spring maximum and autumn minimum, whereas the O3 seasonal cycle in the UT is shifted by 2 to 3 month later towards the end of the year. The more variable H2O measurements reveal a maximum during spring/summer and a minimum…

Monthly Land Surface Temperature maps over European Zone using Advanced Along Track Scanning Radiometer data for 2007

2009

Land Surface Temperature (LST) monthly maps are necessary in climatic studies and remote sensing is a key tool used to obtain these maps. For this reason, we used the LST product of AATSR on board Envisat. This product uses a split-window algorithm which depends on vertical column water vapour content (W) and viewing angle. The algorithm proposed in Galve et al. [1] was also used, which is based on the Coll and Caselles [2] split-window model and depends explicitly on the emissivity and W. This algorithm was tested with concurrent ground measurements in the Valencia validation site, yielding an error of + 0.5 K. With both algorithms we perform LST maps over Europe with a spatial resolution …

Resolution and Determination of the Absolute Configuration of a Twisted Bis-Lactam Analogue of Tröger's Base: A Comparative Spectroscopic and Computa…

2015

The first reported twisted bis-lactam, a racemic Tröger's base (TB) analogue (2), was resolved into its enantiomers on a chiral stationary phase HPLC column. The absolute configuration of (+)-2 was determined to be (R,R)-2 by comparing experimental and calculated vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra. The absolute configuration of (-)-2 was determined by comparing experimental and calculated electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra. The corresponding theoretical spectra were calculated using the lowest energy conformation of (R,R)-2 and (S,S)-2 at the B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) level of theory. The absolute configuration of (+)-2 was also determined t…

Frequency-modulation spectroscopy with blue diode lasers

2000

Frequency-modulation spectroscopy provides ultrasensitive absorption measurements. The technique is especially adaptable to diode lasers, which can be modulated easily, and has been used extensively in the near-infrared and infrared spectral regions. The availability of blue diode lasers now means that the accessible wavelength region can be increased. We successfully demonstrate wavelength-modulation spectroscopy and two-tone frequency-modulation spectroscopy for the weak second resonance line of potassium at 404.8 nm and for the transition at 405.8 nm in lead, starting from the thermally populated 6p(2) P-3(2) metastable level, information on the modulation parameters is obtained with a f…

Surface Defects as a Tool to Solubilize and Functionalize WS 2 Nanotubes

2017

Layered transition metal dichalcogenides contain a number of crystal defects which significantly change their properties may be beneficial or detrimental for a specific application. We have prepared defect-rich multiwalled WS2 nanotubes by reductive sulfidization of W18O49 nanowires that were obtained solvothermally from tungsten chloride in different alcohols. The synthesis of the W18O49 nanowires was monitored and their morphological characteristics (e. g. length, rigidity and aspect ratio) are described in detail. The effect of morphology of the nanowires on the synthesis of WS2 nanotubes was investigated in order to obtain WS2 nanotubes that are highly solvent dispersible. Dispersions o…
