Psychol., 1968, 9, 161–168.—As a partial replication of the Takala & Rantanen (1964) study, the correlations between 6 graphic variables extracted from 6 drawing tasks differing in complexity were investigated. Four graphic trait factors were obtained I Size, II Pressure, III Discontinuous lines, and IV Angularity. Other graphic variables (nuancity and reinforcement) loaded factors II and III. Infant Manipulative Actions upon Customary and Uncustomary Objects in Independent and Joint Activity

Eight 12 month‐olds acting on objects were observed in two sessions: 1) the objects were home objects; 2) they were brought by the observer as new exemplars of previous toys. Infants were observed manipulating objects independently and with their mothers. Type and cognitive level of infant's actions were coded. Conventional actions were more frequent in joint than independent activity. In independent activity, conventional actions were more frequent with customary objects. Multiple effects of visual format on TV news learning

Two experiments were conducted on edited TV newscast sequences to clarify effects of film accompaniment on learning from heard news text. In Experiment 1,150 British subjects viewed a sequence with either film format throughout or alternating film and ‘talking head’ format between items. Those items that were presented by ‘talking heads’ in the mixed sequence were learned better with film format, in which the heard text was accompanied by appropriate moving pictures. Local versus global processing of harmonic cadences in the solution of musical puzzles

The structure of Western musical pieces is delineated by several kinds of cadence. Half cadences in the main key indicate temporary endings; authentic cadences in the main key indicate definitive endings. Authentic cadences in the dominant key are of cognitive interest, since they mark a definitive ending at a local level but a temporary ending at a global level. This study investigated the local versus global processing of these cadences. An eye tracking comparison of external pointing cues and internal continuous cues in learning with complex animations

Abstract Two experiments used eye tracking to investigate a novel cueing approach for directing learner attention to low salience, high relevance aspects of a complex animation. In the first experiment, comprehension of a piano mechanism animation containing spreading-colour cues was compared with comprehension obtained with arrow cues or no cues. Eye tracking data revealed differences in learner attention patterns between the different experimental conditions. The main objective of this article is to analyse the sceptical movement’s discourse on complementary therapies in Spain, as well as comprehend its mobilisation against these therapies. A longitudinal examination of the transition to symbolic communication in the second year of life

Between 10 and 24 months of age, children progress from communicating through conventional signals to communicating through symbols in a variety of situations. The present study investigates this transition analysing mother–child communication frames and the child’s communicative acts, and tracing the developmental changes in both frames and communicative acts.
