Composite chitosan/phosphotungstic acid (CS/PTA) with the addition of TiO2 and Al2O3 particles were synthesized to be used as proton exchange membranes in direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs). The influence of fillers was assessed through X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, liquid uptake, ion exchange capacity and methanol permeability measurements. Test ideals via algebras of 𝑝^{-𝑒}-linear maps

Building on previous work of Schwede, Böckle, and the author, we study test ideals by viewing them as minimal objects in a certain class of modules, called F F -pure modules, over algebras of p − e p^{-e} -linear operators. We develop the basics of a theory of F F -pure modules and show an important structural result, namely that F F -pure modules have finite length. This result is then linked to the existence of test ideals and leads to a simplified and generalized treatment, also allowing us to define test ideals in non-reduced settings. Nonstochastic languages as projections of 2-tape quasideterministic languages

A language L (n) of n-tuples of words which is recognized by a n-tape rational finite-probabilistic automaton with probability 1-e, for arbitrary e > 0, is called quasideterministic. It is proved in [Fr 81], that each rational stochastic language is a projection of a quasideterministic language L (n) of n-tuples of words. Had projections of quasideterministic languages on one tape always been rational stochastic languages, we would have a good characterization of the class of the rational stochastic languages. However we prove the opposite in this paper. A two-tape quasideterministic language exists, the projection of which on the first tape is a nonstochastic language.

AbstractWe introduce unification in first-order logic. In propositional logic, unification was introduced by S. Ghilardi, see Ghilardi (1997, 1999, 2000). He successfully applied it in solving systematically the problem of admissibility of inference rules in intuitionistic and transitive modal propositional logics. A Teaching proposal for the study of eigenvectors and eigenvalues

[EN] In this work, we present a teaching proposal which emphasizes on visualization and physical applications in the study of eigenvectors and eigenvalues. These concepts are introduced using the notion of the moment of inertia of a rigid body and the GeoGebra software. The proposal was motivated after observing students¿ difficulties when treating eigenvectors and eigenvalues from a geometric point of view. It was designed following a particular sequence of activities with the schema: exploration, introduction of concepts, structuring of knowledge and application, and considering the three worlds of mathematical thinking provided by Tall: embodied, symbolic and formal.

We study the problem of maintaining the 2-edge-, 2-vertex-, and 3-edge-connected components of a dynamic planar graph subject to edge deletions. The 2-edge-connected components can be maintained in a total of O(n log n) time under any sequence of at most O(n) deletions. This gives O(log n) amortized time per deletion. The 2-vertex- and 3-edge-connected components can be maintained in a total of O(n log2n) time. This gives O(log2n) amortized time per deletion. The space required by all our data structures is O(n).
