The termination of the vein of ?Labb? and its microsurgical significance

1992

Information about the termination of the inferior anastomotic vein of Labbé is of crucial importance in the subtemporal neurosurgical approach and its modifications. An intradural course has been observed in all cases. The vein of Labbé reaches in 3/4th the anterior third of the transverse sinus, in 73% of all cases tracing a so-called tentorial sinus. By dissecting the vein of Labbé out of its dural bed and shifting its fixation point, microsurgical access is facilitated considerably.

Mitochondrial DNA haplotype frequencies in natural and experimental populations of Drosophila subobscura.

1998

Abstract The evolution of Drosophila subobscura mitochondrial DNA has been studied in experimental populations, founded with flies from a natural population from Esporles (Majorca, Balearic Islands, Spain). This population, like other European ones, is characterized by the presence of two very common (>96%) mitochondrial haplotypes (called I and II) and rare and endemic haplotypes that appear at very low frequencies. There is no statistical evidence of positive Darwinian selection acting on the mitochondrial DNA variants according to Tajima's neutrality test. Two experimental populations, with one replicate each, were established with flies having a heterogeneous nuclear genetic back…

The implant-supported milled bar overdenture : a literature review

2008

Purpose: This bibliographical review aims to determine the present situation of the implant-supported milled bar overdenture as a therapeutic option in implantology, as well as to set and compare the techniques and materials currently used for making them. Materials and methods: By searching the main electronic bibliographical data in indexed Medline articles, we obtained a total number of 20 articles that fulfilled the requirements of this bibliographical review. Results: The implant-supported milled bar overdenture offers excellent long-term successful results, although complication rates are higher in emergency cases of patients initially planned for a fixed prosthesis. Tilted implants for the restoration of posterior mandibles with horizontal atrophy: An alternative treatment

2013

Purpose Horizontal atrophy in the posterior mandible presents serious limitations on conventional implant placement. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the use of tilted implants angled in a buccolingual direction for restoring atrophic posterior mandibular sectors. Materials and Methods A cohort study was performed of 25 patients who had partial prostheses supported by more than 1 implant (≥1 tilted and 1 axial implant) to restore molar areas in the mandible. When the bone thickness was at least 5 mm, axial implants were placed; when the alveolar ridge was narrower, the implant was placed with tilted angulation. The beds for these tilted implants were prepared using a lingual approa…

Marginal and Internal Precision of Zirconia Four-Unit Fixed Partial Denture Frameworks Produced Using Four Milling Systems

2021

Background: CAD/CAM systems enable the production of fixed partial dentures with small and reproducible internal and marginal gaps. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the reproducibility of the marginal and internal adaptations of four-unit fixed partial denture frameworks produced using four CAD/CAM systems. Materials and Methods: Prepared dies of a master model that simulated the loss of the first left molar were measured. Fifteen frameworks were manufactured using four CAD/CAM systems (A–D). The internal fit was determined by the replica technique, and the marginal gap was determined by microscopy. ANOVA was carried out to detect significant differences, and the Bonferron…

Avoiding patterns in irreducible permutations

2016

We explore the classical pattern avoidance question in the case of irreducible permutations, i.e., those in which there is no index $i$ such that $\sigma (i+1) - \sigma (i)=1$. The problem is addressed completely in the case of avoiding one or two patterns of length three, and several well known sequences are encountered in the process, such as Catalan, Motzkin, Fibonacci, Tribonacci, Padovan and Binary numbers. Also, we present constructive bijections between the set of Motzkin paths of length $n-1$ and the sets of irreducible permutations of length $n$ (respectively fixed point free irreducible involutions of length $2n$) avoiding a pattern $\alpha$ for $\alpha \in \{13…

Suffix Array Construction on Multi-GPU Systems

2019

Suffix arrays are prevalent data structures being fundamental to a wide range of applications including bioinformatics, data compression, and information retrieval. Therefore, various algorithms for (parallel) suffix array construction both on CPUs and GPUs have been proposed over the years. Although providing significant speedup over their CPU-based counterparts, existing GPU implementations share a common disadvantage: input text sizes are limited by the scarce memory of a single GPU. In this paper, we overcome aforementioned memory limitations by exploiting multi-GPU nodes featuring fast NVLink interconnects. In order to achieve high performance for this communication-intensive task, we …

Processing and learning from multiple sources: A comparative case study of students with dyslexia working in a multiple source multimedia context

2019

This study investigated how four 10th-grade students with dyslexia processed and integrated information across web pages and representations when learning in a multiple source multimedia context. Eye movement data showed that participants’ processing of the materials varied with respect to their initial exploration of the web pages, their overall processing time, and the linearity of their processing patterns, with post-learning interviews indicating the deliberate, strategic considerations underlying each participant’s processing pattern. Eye movement data in terms of fixation duration and percentage of regressions also corroborated the findings of formal, diagnostic assessments. Finally, …

Suffixes, Conjugates and Lyndon Words

2013

In this paper we are interested in the study of the combinatorial aspects connecting three important constructions in the field of string algorithms: the suffix array, the Burrows-Wheeler transform (BWT) and the extended Burrows-Wheeler transform (EBWT). Such constructions involve the notions of suffixes and conjugates of words and are based on two different order relations, denoted by $\plex$ and $\pom$, that, even if strictly connected, are quite different from the computational point of view. In this study an important role is played by Lyndon words. In particular, we improve the upper bound on the number of symbol comparisons needed to establish the $\pom$ order between two primitive wo…

La crucifixion dans les peintures murales carolingiennes dans l'Europe latine chrétienne et sur ses marges (IXè - début du XIème siècle)

2015

This Dissertation focuses on the iconography of the Crucifixion in the Carolingian mural painting between the 9th and the beginning of the 11th century. Pivot in the Christian thought with its dogmatic scope, the Crucifixion remains however poorly represented in the Latin West until the middle of the 8th century. Actually, the Carolingian period is a decisive turning point when the Crucifixion displays gradually on all the supports and through different technics, at the same time as the iconography tends to be crystallized. Based on a documentation composed of thirteen decorations painted between the 9th and the beginning of the 11th century and distributed in the former limits of the Carol…
