BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: This European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) multicentre randomized phase III study was designed to assess the safety and efficacy of CD34+ selection in newly diagnosed myeloma patients undergoing autologous transplantation. DESIGN AND METHODS: One hundred and eleven patients responsive to initial chemotherapy were randomized to receive CD34+ selected (arm A) or unselected PBPC (arm B) after conditioning with high-dose melphalan and TBI. Follow-up is often considered to be a weak or even missing element in environmental impact assessment (EIA). Though it is recognized that follow-up practices could provide useful opportunities to learn from projects’ actual consequences, the practice is criticized for not achieving this goal. In this paper, we aim to clarify the relationship between the theoretical rationale for EIA follow-up and the actual practices carried out in a Finnish EIA context. An empirical analysis was performed with follow-up documents. Longitudinal associations of physical activity and pubertal development with academic achievement in adolescents.

Highlights • Boys with higher levels of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity had better academic achievement than those with lower levels of physical activity at baseline. • Physical activity was not associated with academic achievement at follow-up in boys or girls. • Continuously inactive adolescents had poorer academic achievement over the follow-up period than their more active peers. • Girls with more advanced pubertal status had better academic achievement than other girls.

Patients with transthyretin amyloid polyneuropathy (TTR-FAP) and asymptomatic mutation-carriers have to be regularly followed-up in order to identify disease progression and the time point for starting or modifying therapy. In this case series we describe the potential suitability of different variables as progression markers. We retrospectively analyzed the follow-up charts of 10 TTR-FAP patients. Clinical examination included the Neuropathy Impairment Score of Lower Limb (NIS-LL), temperature perception thresholds, nerve conduction and autonomic function tests.
